This is topical:
"French health authorities say they have confirmed a link between nitrates added to processed meat and colon cancer, dealing a blow to the country’s prized ham and cured sausage industry."
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/ ... uthorities
I'll see if I can find the primary source...
It's from ANSES, the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety. Here's their news page, but I can't see anything about this yet:

Eating no meat will diminish the need for the breeding of livestock, humans don't need to eat meat to live a healthy and happy life.
I beg to differ.
I need meat to live a healthy and happy life and would like those telling us otherwise to keep their opinion to themselves. It seems we are constantly bombarded with what we should do,eat and drink by ‘them’.
The current trend of ramming plant based garbage down our throats does nothing but annoy those who eat a normal diet.
Meat is nice.It tastes nice.Leave the majority who wish to consume it alone and keep your meat free diets to yourselves!

And though it's said developed adults may be able to exist on a vegetarian diet it's far less appropriate for a child to do so - they need the range of proteins and fats that are in meat or fish.

Show me where I was telling anyone not to eat meat?
Perhaps you might go back and read my posts in context!
BTW humans don't
need meat to live a happy and healthy life.
What is a normal diet?

Do you have proof of that?

I understand this post may be controversial for some, but if animal welfare concerns you, simply stop eating meat.
We as humans with the vatiety of foods on offer and vitamins available don't need to eat meat.
Funny, it seemed pretty clear from previous discussion that you're against telling people how to live their life.
Perhaps I was wrong

Usual problems with evidence in nutrition:
• It's hard or impossible to do long-term controlled trials that measure what really matters.
• Very large commercial pressures.
• Vast amounts of opinion and pseudoscience from people who strongly believe things.
For effects on children there's a study from 2021:
"Growth, body composition, and cardiovascular and nutritional risk of 5- to 10-y-old children consuming vegetarian, vegan, or omnivore diets":
https://academic.oup.com/ajcn/article/1 ... 65/6178918
with a commentary:
"Vegan diets in children may bring heart benefits but pose growth risks":
https://www.ucl.ac.uk/child-health/news ... owth-risks
As well as its own findings it has a good discussion of what's known and what isn't known.

I'm not telling anyone not to eat meat or how to live their lives,in that post I was merely putting forward that there isn't the
need for humans to eat meat.
If people wish to eat meat that's up to them and I have no problem with that.
So yes you were wrong

For adults it's repeatedly observed that people eating vegetarian or vegan diets have less cardiovascular disease and less cancer.
A couple of systematic reviews:
"Cardiovascular disease mortality and cancer incidence in vegetarians: a meta-analysis and systematic review":
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22677895/
"Vegetarian, vegan diets and multiple health outcomes: A systematic review with meta-analysis of observational studies":

Thanks for that,it seems to point to meat being a necessity in growing humans, but as you say there's possibly a lot of outside interference in studies such as these.
That's not me saying it's wrong just saying it's not an exact science because of outside interests.

For children my current view is that meat isn't essential, but there are several potential problems that you have to actively manage to avoid harm, and that not all parents etc are doing that.
