Foot down and foot up:
Pictures of your recumbent
Re: Pictures of your recumbent
Thankyou. Looks good, I'd thought it was going to be a more folded position.

It's a lot more comfortable once I'd clamped the seat stays 1+cm shorter for a more open position. I moved it from it's most upright usable position (ie. front of seat not bending to contact the frame) to a mid-position. Yes the front of the seat is cantilevered, it bends down when you sit on it.

Update photo of the Catrike. Now featuring Catrike specific frame bags, Topeak rear rack (amazon), Sidepods & mudguards via this forum and new (to me) pedals from yacf. Pannier bags I bought over a decade ago.
Don't plan to ride with this much luggage as a rule, but thought it would do for the photo op. I do need to fettle the mudguards as they catch dropping off curbs.
If I had a baby elephant, I would put it on a recumbent trike so that it would become invisible.

With smaller wheels and the seat fully laid back:
Re: Pictures of your recumbent
So I can reach the ground more easily. This becomes more difficult with the seat laid back further. Having the seat laid back further opens the hip angle which I thought was too closed for optimum pedalling.
Re: Pictures of your recumbent
Two of my ‘bents, Performer High Racer 26” and Schlitter Freestyle. I picked up the Performer for a song a couple of years not long after I started riding recumbents and since switching from tiller to superman bars, I’ve really enjoyed riding it. So I figured the Schlitter would offer a similar riding experience but with more flexibility for wheel/tyre choices (the Performer is limited to narrow 559 tyres or even narrower 571 tyres).
I’ve had the Schlitter frameset since April but I’ve only just finished amassing all the parts and building it up. I’m still getting it dialled in but so far, so good

I'd be interested to hear how you get on with the Freestyle. What gearing have you gone with?
Re: Pictures of your recumbent
I’ve gone for a 3x10 setup, mainly because that’s what already had parts for! SRAM shifters and rear mech and an ancient XT front mech. Cassette is 11-36. I’ve changed the chainset from the one in the pictures (it was TA Vega 155mm 48/38/26, but I’ve changed it to a 165mm Shimano 105 50/39/30 as it works better with indexed front shifting).
Re: Pictures of your recumbent
How does seat height compare? It looks a bit higher than the Performer.
Re: Pictures of your recumbent
Yes, there is quite a difference in seat height!
The Performer (which is fitted with 559x28 Conti GPs - which come up a bit small) has a seat height of about 20" and a BB height of 28.5"
The Schlitter (fitted with GP4000s 700x28s that are actually more like a 32) has a seat height of 24" and a BB height of 34"
I'm about 5' 6" and I can comfortably get both feet flat on the floor while sitting laid back on the Performer, but on the Freestyle I can only get tiptoes on the ground while laid back although if I sit up I can pretty much get both feet fully down which is absolutely fine for me. By comparison, my only other high racer experience has been a Bacchetta Giro 26 fitted with 559x40 tyres which had a seat height of 26" and I could only get my tiptoes down even when sitting up. That felt a bit hairy sometimes though generally still just about manageable.
I'm also planning on building up some 650b wheels for the Freestyle which will make it about half an inch lower with 650x38 tyres
Re: Pictures of your recumbent
Also to add for anyone that doesn't know, the Freestyle is built for John Schlitter by Performer. Although purchasing was done via the Schlitter website, the frameset was shipped directly from Performer in Taiwan - took about 4 weeks to arrive.
Re: Pictures of your recumbent
Would a recumbent be OK to use on trails and paths etc ? ie does the frame accommodate say 2" tyres ? Just that I've only seen pictures of recumbents that have skinny tyres.
I am here. Where are you?
