A couple of weeks ago as I rode up from Tooting Common to Clapham I was getting a hard time from two white vans, belonging to an elevator company.

They were driving together, doing everything possible to stop me going past them and then overtaking at inappropriate speeds, with as little room as possible.

Finally as I was preparing to turn right, one of them overtook me on the left, braked and came over in front of me to turn right as well. But his mate in a smaller van hadn't seen the indicator and had to slam on the brakes and skid to miss the front van by about four inches. How I would have loved making a witness statement.

Anyway, fate had obviously kept me in mind, because today I had the delight of seeing the same van involved in a collision at Kennington Oval. (Don't worry, nobody injured, just bent metal).

Schadenfreude... finest word not in the English language.

Don't you just LOVE it when that happens!
Did you say hello to him?

Two mates were riding back from our Thursdayclub lunch a couple of weeks back on a narrow road when an approching car made no attempt to slow or give adequate time to single out. The driver was recognised as a regular practioner of the Clarkson approach. Two days later one of the riders saw him on his mobile with his car parked backwards in a ditch. More schadenfreude!

Marvellous stories; like the 11 year old who was driving his 18 year old brother's car past my hoiuse while the 18 year old was talking to his mum on the phone to say that the 11 year old was misbehaving... bpoing.... 30,000 of damage to three cars and the father of the two came up and told me I was a nutter whilst I was watching the tow away.

Honest, I was, standing there naked, just for the fun of it, shrieking apelike and scratching my armpits.

Slightly different topic: they do say that peak hours car commuters frequently latch on to the same car every night/morning in front of them and are unaware that they have done/do so, such is the clockwork of their habits

Very amusing.
I got some yobs threatening to beat me up as I overtook them at a red light one night. Pulled over to the nearest place I could see someone else and wondered why they were drving on rather than fufliflling their promise. Then I saw the police car come past and pull them over. Satisfying. I admitted to going past the car at the light and stopping ahead of them. "Don't worry about it." Replied the policeman. "You're on a bicycle, it's the done thing. I even do it on my motorcycle." Great to know such people patrol our streets.
