Please, imagine it into reality, can you?

Today is one heck of a lesson in why, let alone the other general improvements in quality of life.

What I'd hope for would be an extra voice for the removal of anti-cyclist barriers. The one shown wouldn't be able to cope with shoulder trapper A-frames or most offset barrier zigzags.

With slab sides, a narrow track and no easy way to put your foot out until it may be a bit late these could be tricky in high winds! I wonder if they have been tested for cross winds and the Nordic Moose swerve manoeuvre?

I think rather than Nordic moose they are more likely to undergo the distracted tourist manoeuvre!

Or unattended child / dog / unseen bollard etc. etc. If these vehicles have not been tested for reasonably predictable conditions then that isn't good news for the riders (drivers?) and those with possibly150kg+(?) heading for them.

Are we getting a bit ahead of ourselves here? Is there any evidence they have not been tested properly? They are not cheap and I'd assume they must be fit for purpose and must have undergone proper testing to be covered by the manufacturers/designers liability insurance.

But if there is evidence about them being untested please do post.

No idea if tested, however the cars that failed the moose test were on the road before it was known the performance wasn't quite what people expected. The slab sides and narrow track don't look good for cross winds.

A few (outline) technical details at:

https://electrek.co/2022/04/04/take-a-l ... ike-motor/

200kg load, so total mass could be around 1/3 tonne. Oh and 0.84m / 33" wide.

Psamathe wrote: 18 Jul 2022, 12:21pm One of my concerns about them using the cycle lanes is not so much riding on the dedicated cycle only lanes but that they'll likely be regularly stopping in those lanes blocking them, slowly accelerating only to be stopping a short distance for the next delivery. I have no experience of their blocking lanes and obstructing them (I don't cycle in cities where they are appropriate) but I'd not be atall surprised if people started reporting such issues.
A code of conduct might be the most appropriate intervention until we know more about this.
