Hi,

I'm considering a quick tour to the Netherlands in the autumn, just looked at the prices for the Hull - Rotterdam ferry and they are charging £200+ for a foot passenger + bike.

That seems a bit steep to me, does anyone have any tips on getting a bargain on this route?

Ring P+O and talk directly. I've found that it is easier than trying to fight through the interweb thing!!!

I'm interested in similar advice. Any UK port to any Dutch Port.

Let me know how this goes.

I took the P&O Hull-Rotterdam route earlier this year. I gave them a ring and mentioned the old CTC discount (which I think no longer exists, officially...) and got a cheaper price than the one listed on the website -- not much cheaper, but it all helps.

The DFDS (Newcastle-Amsterdam) route can be a bit less expensive, I think, particularly if you can travel mid-week.

I recently had the bright idea of an eco friendly holiday to the Netherlands. As I live 'oop North', thought I'd get a price from D.F.D.S. Two adults, one child, one infant. Two cycles, a tag a long and a trailer. NO CAR!
Bear in mind I once used this service with a motorbike for £57, and two of us went for a mini break for £90. Quite reasonable.

Mid week, £432!!! Astonishing!

There is absolutely no incentive to even try to keep off planes these days.

So there we go. If you live in the South, Dover to Calais is dirt cheap. Unfortunately, getting there with above bikes on a train is impossible.

It's not all bad. I've got the Yorkshire Dales, Pennines, Cheviots, Lake District, Northumberland and North York Moors all within reach. Mustn't grumble...
