Collapsible bowl for camping

I have been thinking of getting a collapsible bowl for camping for sometime, but the price of £12 to £14 has always put me off. Walking around an outdoor shop yesterday I saw a Dog one for £3.99 Crufts and something to do with the Kennel club. It did not say it on the packaging, but a quick google found similar, presumably from the same factory in China, silicone and BPA free. I think you may even buy them cheaper.
Anyroads, bought one, took it home and filled with boiling water, and it seems fine to me.
They also had a cheap collapsible chair, and it was rubbish compared to my Helinox Ground Chair, so cheap is not always good, IMHO

No, an eating bowl. I could not imagine carrying the kitchen sink

I use Orikaso - packs in your luggage much better than the silicone folding bowls do.

(£5)
There's also
Fozzils - similar fold flat, but poppers instead of tuck in tabs, and considerably more expensive (£20)

Surely a non-collapsable bowl only takes up space if there is nothing you can put in the bowl in luggage e.g. what if you rolled-up a T-shirt and put that in the bowl ...
Like my saucepan (small) - on previous tours perfect fit for a gas canister with mini-stove, lighter, pot lifter, etc. above so the pot itself took virually no space as everything in it would have taken the same luggage space without the pot.

We had some collapsible silicon based bowls that got used at home. It wasn't that long before they started to split along the concertina folding bits.
As mentioned up thread, if you can fill a bowl with something, it effectively takes up no space.
Now I (sometimes) go camping with the other half, I take her aunty Janet's kettle with a lid. Between meusli/tea bags etc stuffed through the lid, it too takes up no space (and serves as a tea pot, thus ensuring proper tasting tea while camping).

I have quite a bit of Orikaso folding stuff, cups, plates, bowls, which i used for a good number of years without issue - combined with a kettle inside of which lived the stove, coffee, tea etc.
I can't remember exactly why but i had one of those 'visions' of doing things differently about 5 years ago which ended with me buying a folding kettle pot along with a cup and bowl which, along with cutlery, stove, condiments etc now live in a packing cube. The overall weight is pretty similar but i've gained by having more solid crockery and the kettle doubles as a pan if i do decide to heat stuff other than water. So far its all remained sound, cleans well and has reduced the space needed in the bags. Usually the cups/bowls have a rigid base and/or lip, the extra stability of a solid base is great for a bowl whilst a stiff upper lip

makes drinking a bit easier.
In the last week i've seen collapsible cups in Ikea and in Lidl for not much dosh if anyones interested.

Gutted, I was so pleased with my new bowl, but now I know it is heavier, will not last as long and is no more efficient space wise than my existing plastic bowl.

We use very light noncollapsible silicone (sic) bowls without a pronounced base or lip. The quality of the lip to lip contact has a surprisingly large effect on the pleasure of drinking. And on our tours we do aim for pleasure rather than mere survival.

agree - this is of course the practical non gimmicky line followed by Trangia.
I have one of these - or something very similar.

I don't begrudge it its space - the bowl hollow is not packed empty.
It's so good I very often use it at home - and it will very probably live on after I have collapsed.

Yup, that's what we have, it works fine. High end rocket science whizziness not really needed for this sort of thing.

The wife bought a pack of collapsible bowls that nested inside each other thinking I could use them. I found they stained very badly and not practical at all.
They eventually found their way to the recycle bin.
My solution was tea bag caddy 50p inside microwaveable plastic mug £3 inside the microwaveable bowl £3 with ( microwave clip on lid with vent -- Tesco )
