What a shame the TDFF is not live on ITV4
It seems its only on pay TV , eg Eurosport.

Are the highlights shown anywhere on Freeview ?

There are some highlights here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDZeXbEX97w
No idea what they are like I’ve been watching live :D.
ITV say they don’t have the rights. That’s because they never put a bid in. They give women's lip service but won’t back it with their wallet.

GCN also release videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nt3Oc_vEV4 a bit of today :D

Le Col have got some free GCN subscriptions to give away (for the duration of the TDFF); it sounds like there were still some left earlier today (Monday), so perhaps worth a shot? https://lecolwahoo.com/moreeyesonher

Yup, I filled in the form this afternoon and my freebie code for GCN+ arrived this evening.

What's the source for that? I read somewhere a while ago that ASO had sold Warner Brothers's Discovery exclusive rights for all of Europe except France (where it's on France 3, the host broadcaster) and wasn't reselling them. For example, it's not on other terrestial channels in Germany or Italy, as far as I can tell.

WB should have put a highlights show on Quest, like they do for the men's Giro and Vuelta, but it seems they would rather show more repeats of Salvage Hunters and How Do They Do It than support women's racing fully.

ITV has shown the Women's Tour of Britain highlights for years, which Eurosport have been rather hit-and-miss about, despite it being a first-division event since 2014, so I don't think there's necessarily a lack of backing.

Dodgy one Twitter and assumed on what Chris Boardman didn’t say.

Does having exclusive rights bar you from selling it on in some form?

It may do. Depends on the contract. My impression is that usually it gives you rights to show the event in full plus your own highlights show, and to sell very limited clips to third parties in your country/territory (as in a few seconds for a news bulletin, not a whole show's worth of highlights).

It costs money to follow and broadcast sporting events. Not just paying the organisers for the right to do so but also commentators, camera crews, vehicles etc etc. What's wrong with paying to view?

Until I Googled TDFF, I had no idea what it stood for. Never heard of it before.

Talking of lady sports-people, why are the Lionesses called that?
British Lions are male rugby union.

I assume that it's from their crest.

You don't remember the John Barnes rap?

Morocco and Cameroon's teams are also known as the Lionesses.

Were. They've been known as the British and Irish Lions since 2001.

· Sports events on pay-to-view have lower sponsorship income because only existing subscribers see it and there's also a feeling among them that they've already paid for the event so why should they suffer intrusive adverts too?
· It reduces future income for the whole sport because people who aren't already fans aren't paying so don't see the broadcasts.
· It also reduces future participation because youths who aren't children of subscribers don't see the sport; and this tends to hurt women's sport disproportionately, according to last year's "Sport on European TV: Maximising Commercial Value" report by Eurovision.

There's also the simple technical failings of most current subscription services. For example, GCN+ is not available on my smart TV (a 2016 Samsung) or either set-top box, so even if I were inclined to subscribe and benefit myself temporarily while harming the future of cycle sport, I would be gambling on it not having copy-protection flags or other smart-buttockery that tries to prevent me casting it from another device. So, in practice, I think most people just get a Sky or Now box or an Amazon stick and help those behemoths burrow further into our lives, which is a whole other can of worms, the dangers of which we may disagree about.
