Accomodation mid wales
I was considering a mini tour of mid wales ridding from Wolverhampton to Aberystwyth.
I researched cheap/budget accomodation I found it wanting. I am not fussy, I need some to keep the bike safe hopefully undercover. As long the place is not rat infested and non smoking I am happy.
Any suggestions?

I would check out independent hostels. I stayed at Beili Neuadd twice pre-Covid, the first time was good but the second time was marred by a fire alarm going beep in the night. The owner is a cyclist and there is a bike shed. I didn't see any rats. It is handy for the Elan Valley and the gated road along the Wye Valley to Llangurig, both of which are great for cycling.

I've also stayed there as part of a group, we booked the entire hostel, plus the caravan and a couple in the B&B. Excellent in every way. A few years ago so can't remember the price, but it would have been the best value we could find.

Are you looking for individual accommodation, or for a group?
What sort of cost are you aiming for?

Dolgoch and Ty'n Cornel are two hostels which are definitely off the beaten track but handy for the Devil's Staircase and the track over the top to Strata Florida from where it is a relatively easy to get to Aberystwyth. I haven't stayed at either but I am sure it would be an interesting experience.

A left field suggestion, if you really want to save money, is the posh bothy called Claerddu near the Teifi Pools, SN 793 687. It is handy for the rough (gravel!) track along the Claerwen Reservoir. I haven't been there for a few years mind.

I stayed in Rhayader for £30 a couple of years back. A decent enough place with a good shower. I just checked and it's now £40. hmmm.
Looking at airbnb, that seems about the best price available. Though if you looked hard enough you could probably get somewhere that included breakfast as well, which would reduce the total cost a bit.

As above the two Elenydd hostels Dolgoch and Tyncornel are best value options at £15 a night. Both have hot showers and all bedding provided see their website . Claerddu bothy. Was there about a month ago wonderful location near Teifi Pools has running water but inside ruined by graffiti everywhere ,pity people can’t visit these places without ruining them . There is also another bothy on the east side of the top Elan Valley Reservoir which at the moment is empty of water !

I think that's a fair price if you walk/cycle there - not many UK hostels require such substantial climbing just to reach them.steve.y.griffith wrote: ↑26 Jul 2022, 1:23pm As above the two Elenydd hostels Dolgoch and Tyncornel are best value options at £15 a night.
£20 for parking would seem fair too.
