Do you have a local self-help bike workshop/co-operative/kitchen/cycle hub?

They quite often help out with repairs and maintenance and have access to cheap frames.

If its an aluminium frame, and you don't mind a slightly ugly repair, you could probably get a patch welded on that would stop the crack from failing. Would need to be someone who knows how to weld aluminium properly, but there are loads around - just about every agricultural trailer will have been rewelded at some point.

Similarly to the comments above, if you're not averse to s bit of a rough--and-ready approach, then if you can get sufficient access, some stainless strapping applied with one of these could work and be a low-tech yet durable solution?

Others will comment if it's a daft idea, I'm sure!
