Arthritis in my ankle joint

I don't have arthritis in my ankle, but have been diagnosed earlier this year with severe osteoarthritis in my toes on one foot (and I suspect now have it in both feet). I've found cycling is a bit painful (I haven't done any long distances) but far easier than walking, which can be very painful after short distances.

Have you experimented with stiffer soles in the cycling shoes? They might decrease movement in the joints of the forefoot and that might decrease pain.

Hi Margit.

Stumbled on your post after googling ankle arthritic pain cycling. My symptoms sound very similar to yours. Age (43). Cycle 100-150m per week both in and outdoors. I’ve had swelling flare ups in the past on both ankles now and diagnosis has been patchy to fractured bone aggravation to cellutis. Wondering how you have managed the diagnosis and whether you’ve been able to maintain a decent volume of cycling? I use SPDs and only use flats on my shopper bike whilst taking kids to school.
