Women's football
Re: Women's football
Come on, sweet Caroline, together we can rock and roll!
This is far more interesting than football.

As an aficionado I'd have thought you'd have known the Quo song title is Caroline, not Sweet Caroline MickMick F wrote: ↑1 Aug 2022, 8:07pm Come on, sweet Caroline, together we can rock and roll!

Good times never seemed so good!
I'd be inclined na na na,
to believe they never could....
It's a very positive anthem!

Was nice to see football fans not all pissed up and looking for a fight with each other..
Reminded me of rugby.

Ask the men's football fans - they started it I believe. I have no idea why. But its a good song and kids love to sing it.Mick F wrote: ↑1 Aug 2022, 6:31pmMick F wrote: Not seen it or interested in watching.
Heard the news of their victory on the radio this morning.
They were reporting that they were singing Sweet Caroline.
Why were the fans singing a Status Quo song? Why were they singing and American song and not an English one?pete75 wrote:It's a Neil Diamond song Mick.

They can sing whatever song they like not just ones that originated in this septic isle.Mick F wrote: ↑1 Aug 2022, 6:31pmMick F wrote: Not seen it or interested in watching.

You've managed, singlehandedly,to turn a positive thread commending and celebrating the England women's football team being the best in Europe, into an argument over a song you think should be sung at their matches, which you've been corrected on but still insist the crowd should sing the song of your choice.
Thanks

Re: Women's football
As an aside, the media commentary has now switched from congratulations and remarking on how things have changed for the women's team to speculating on the subject of what might happen next. At the core of this discussion is the elephant in the room - money. At which point I shudder when I recall the men's game and how it's changed in my lifetime - and seldom for the better.
I wish the women's team all the very best in the world, and hope too that they're able to resist the worst aspects of modern professional sport.

Agreed, money(lots of it sometimes from dodgy sources)has got in the way professional sport.
It's sad in so many ways, unfortunately it's the way of the world, winning is everything and money buys the best.
Fortunately this doesn't happen in the international game as choice is limited to the nation
