Women's football
Women's football
I've been watching the European championships and have enjoyed every game.
The level of football has been first rate, with the crowning glory being England winning the championship this afternoon, brilliant!
What say you?
NOTE:- if you're going to post negativity about football or the women's game in general start your own thread please.

If you need to 'bring it home' then you need a woman.
It has indeed been an excellent competition.

I thought the game at the King Power Stadium on Saturday was of a much higher standard, albeit a glorified friendly.

Re: Women's football
that first goal tonight was just wonderful, what incredible composure on such a massive occasion - so proud of them!
Womens football is great to watch, they're just as skillful as the mens game - I wonder if you get that same sense of raw power if you are at the side of the pitch?, but for TV it is just as good, may be even better.
I've thoroughly enjoyed the womens euros, although some of the teams were a bit of a push over - but Germany tonight was a real battle.

Re: Women's football
I enjoyed the final and was mightily relieved when it did not go to penalties!
I was there too when England took part in the final in 1966, and the observation I would like to make is that the UK's dental hygene has come on leaps and bounds since then. Although that maybe a gender thing.

Not seen it or interested in watching.
Heard the news of their victory on the radio this morning.
They were reporting that they were singing Sweet Caroline.
Why were the fans singing a Status Quo song?

Re: Women's football
I've never been interested in football, much to my father's disappointment, but even I got enthused watching the last 35-40 mins of the match. I'm made up for them.
My father had a ticket for me to go with him, but I wasn't interested.simonineaston wrote: ↑1 Aug 2022, 11:45am I was there too when England took part in the final in 1966

Re: Women's football
It’s great that women’s football has had so much publicity and been so popular. I’ve seen a lot of comments in the papers about it, about how it can provide the basis for even more support for the women’s game, how all schoolgirls should have the chance to play etc. I agree with all of that, but think it a shame that none of the commentators has mentioned the Tour de France Femmes finishing on the same day. Another sport that has marginalised women finally getting cover and showing the strength, skill and courage of the women. Let’s hope both go on getting the respect and publicity they deserve.
Re: Women's football
Lousy ref who ignored serial German fouls in the first 15 minutes and continued in the same vein. The Germans were dirty players and our girls responded by giving back as good as they got.
Great fighting spirit from our ladies won the match!

- I've never had a particular interest in footie - the last big match I watched was England vs Germany in the world cup 1966
- however, I did watch the ladies final and I rather enjoyed it and providing ladies footie doesn't attract the yob element that is unfortunately part of the mens game for many teams, I'll quite possibly be watching a bit more
- I did find it refrshing that when a player was brought to the ground, they didn't make the fuss that some male players do - they just got up and played - bravo ladies
