I may be behind the times here (l'm listening to Leftfield's Leftism at the mo' should any further proof be required...) but I swear I saw the outline of something out of place under a footie shirt, between the shoulder blades of our girls on Sunday - something like a small rectangular box... anyone 'modern' recognise what they were?

It's an accelerometer and GPS device and radio transmitter. Widely used in training to measure performance. In matches it can detect when a player is slowing.

Compared with the mens final last year I think that as a spectacle it acquitted itself well. Nobody would think twice about going along as a family. Nobody in their right mind would do the same at a mens final

The women's team lacked diversity but they still won...
Well done to the Lionesses!....but I ain't holding my breathe for the men to win a cup as they are useless!

Heard the news of their victory on the radio this morning.
They were reporting that they were singing Sweet Caroline.
Why were the fans singing a Status Quo song?

Why were they singing and American song and not an English one?

Likewise ball? Fiited at request of German team in order to clear up arguements as to whether - or not - it actually
did go over the line...

Agreed!
A distinct lack of theatricals on the pitch and a distinct lack of yobbish behaviour from spectators of it.
Plus, the women's game at international level at least, equals the men's game without the appalling baggage that comes along with it.

never heard it at all last night, it was a big part of the mens 2020 euro finals, lyrics substituted to "sweet team of mine" sounded brilliant. I have always liked a football crowd in full voice, takes me back to my childhood standing on the Leazes End, This is something the womens game needs to work on.

No particular reason, but why Sweet Caroline at all ............. of any nationality?
What's wrong with Swing Low Sweet Chariot, or even There'll Always be an England?

It's an interesting story. And the best available explanation is linked upthread. Twice.

My modest pile overlooks the pitches here at Glos cc. I now understand that there are a number of popular tunes on stand-by, ready to be cranked out over the public address system, in order to provoke some sort of tribal call-and-response reaction. Sweet Caroline is one. Neil warbles the chorus, the volume knob is twiddled down and the cider-fueled crowd bellows, "So Good, So Good, So good!". This is called 'entertainment' and apparently the masses are prepared to pay for it...

Why not sing Jerusalem, or Pennies from Heaven. I would not ask for Neil Diamond who got his best song from the Monkeys i e,I am a Believer-very confessional!

I'm not especially interested in football, but I was amused to hear that one of the T-shirt companies (Red Molotov?) have brought out a design printed with the words "FOOTBALL - Invented by men, Perfected by women".
