WD40 SILICONE LUBRICANT
I have recently become a fan of WD40 SILICONE LUBRICANT. I find it works well on cables and gear mechanisms.
But the pricing is going up. I have looked at other brands e.g., SOUDAL there are others, they are cheaper.
My question is, are there any real differences between the different brands?

I don't know of any decent comparative reviews for this sort of application.

PS: When we get to
chain lubrication please could it be added to one of the existing threads about chain lubrication, eg from last month:

WD 40 is not a lubricant as such. It is a water dispersal oil - hence the WD. Best not used as a lubricant.

The OP is about WD-40
silicone lubricant rather than ordinary WD-40:

WD40 is simply a brand name now and like a lot of companies one expects they are far more then the one trick pony of old.

I've found the Screwfix silicone lubricant (No Nonsense) to be just as good,....... Better than paying for a "brand name"

What's the difference between silicone and teflon lubricants?
I've used teflon extensively but not silicone??
Cheers James

I'm no chemist but I thought silicone lubricants are safe to use on/near plastics.
Teflon/PTFE is a forever chemical with some degree of health and environmental risk....and according to this link potentially of limited benefit in bike lubes:

I've used the WD40 silicone spray, but I find that it both smells and feels oily and sometimes leaves a residue. By contrast the Tableau Dry Lube spray I was using before that was clean and quick-drying, with a faint rubbery smell. It's also slightly cheaper than the WD40 one. Also handy for making curtain tracks, sliding shower doors and even zip fasteners run smoothly.
Warning: Some types of silicone lube are intended for - er - personal use...

I use PMA brand Silicon Lube (for a sticky patio door track!). It seems to do the job well. Leaves a film of silicone on the surface of the object being spayed.
