Suggestions for best bicycle pump I can carry with me
Can anyone recommend a good quality bicycle pump that I can take with me when out and about on my Thorn Club Tour. I would prefer to carry it in my panniers rather than forget and leave it on the bike only to come back and find it has grown legs. I currently use Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres and like to keep them at 85psi. My current hand pump I carry struggles to get to that. I have a track pump at home but obviously I cant carry that with me.
Sugestions would be very welcome

Topeak Road Morph perhaps... I have one and have the same tyres as yourself, and can easily achieve 85psi..
Just a thought!

Why not?
The pump on my bike isn't good for the high pressures I like: it needs more work than my weedy arms can deliver. On tour last year, I also took a Lidl track pump in a pannier. Not massively heavy, used only for topping up the pressure, and worked fine.

I'm still using a Zefal HPX. I know some folks prefer the more modern Road Morphe design but if it works that'll do me. Last time I used it the home track pump registered something like 90psi when I came to top it up next morning.
If at first you don't succeed - cheat!!

I still have an HPx - an excellent frame-fitting pump - but I also have a road morph which IMO is a better pump so would be the one to go for if it's going in a pannier. (The frame-fit bracket for the morph is an ugly large lump.)
Others have recommended the Lezyne range - although I have no experience - I'd suggest they are worthj checking out.

Top Peak Road or Mountain Morph. Best pump I ever had.

I've got one of these from Halfords
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_700450_langId_-1_categoryId_165661
It's cheap, fairly small, reliable and can pump my road bike tyres up to 100psi.

I'm not old and cynical, I'm realistic!
Re: Suggestions for best bicycle pump I can carry with me
I've had no luck whatsoever with umpteen mini pumps, I've tried various variable-ratio Crank brothers efforts, Specialized "Airhead" thingies with handles that hinge out, and countless other fancy schmancy stuff, but nothing ever worked particularly well so I always ended up back with the Zefal HPX on the frame (the love of my life as far as bike pumps go, I've had the same one for 20 years) and put up with it sticking out of my bag all day when I'm in town - I've also forgotten it on the bike when locking up a few times!
However, recently I got a Specialized Airtool, not sure what the model name is from looking at it, but this is the baby - http://www.evanscycles.com/products/spe ... zed%20pump £20 from my LBS.
It's the only one I've found that's properly sturdy all round, and has a very small bore so is easy to get high pressures, albeit takes longer to get there.
TBH wider bore pumps are such hard work anyway that there's not much difference, just with this one I'm not in such a bad mood after having pumped a tyre up.

Lezyne Road Drive with flexible hose. As good as most full-length ones that I've tried:-

Review is not quite correct; it does Schrader valves as well because the hose is reversible.

Old enough to know better but too young to care.

I've got two of the above pumps, have used them since 2003 and have found them to be excellant. Spare "wearable" parts I.e. washers, can be found fairly easily I.e. @ SJS Cycles

I had one of the Lezyne Road Drive with flexible hose. It's ok, but I found it a lot harder than
the Zefal hpx to get to 100 psi. The hpx is the frame pump for me.

Zefal HPX. Available in a range of sizes to fit most frames, rebuild kit is readily available, robust aluminium barrel. Mine pumps reasonably easily to 120psi, and will go much higher than that with a bit of effort.
