A bit more info will help
How old/fit are you
Where abouts are you going to ride it
What do you want to do with it I.e commute > tour> exercise > explore
Whatever I am, wherever I am, this is me. This is my life

I'm 6ft 8" and have three road/gravel bikes.

Mercian 61cm, 3x10 Ultegra. It's really very nice and feels properly matched to my size.

Cannondale Caadx gravel bike 58cm. Possibly a touch small for me, but stable and comfortable on the trails

Orbea Vector Drop 60cm. Actually a gravel bike, but it's on slicks with mudguards. It's probably the fastest of the three bikes, but isn't as comfortable as the Mercian.

On balance, I'd probably go for a gravel bike like the Orbea. It's strongly built, has hydraulic discs for strong stopping power (even if I personally find them a touch temperamental sometimes) and runs well on 28mm tyres. The Mercian is wonderful (531 Reynolds frame, immaculate condition) but I wouldn't want to ride it on UK roads on 23mm tyres.

You'd get an as new Orbea secondhand for your budget.

Boardman carbon

Best vfm.

Looks a bit average compared to the older model.

You'll struggle to get carbon for your budget these days.

I remember Rutland selling Cannondale supersix for £750 before covid!!

If alloy then most will be available around £1k just the posher brands get claris / Sora and budget brands might stretch to tiagra.
