Garmin - Are we stuck with a dark blue triangle and dark purple route?

Post by Manc33 »

I noticed on my Garmin, I'm a blue triangle on the map and the route in front of me is purple. While this is usable, I'd probably rather change it to something like, a neon pink triangle and a neon green route, or whatever. Anything that stands out more than the current colours.

I have looked through the settings and it seems this isn't customizable on the device at all? Has anyone ever made third-party files that change it? Does something like Garmin BaseCamp or Garmin Express let you change it?

A long shot... I know.

Nope:

Changing it looks like some sort of hack is needed. :|

It's like that on the Edge 830/1030/Explore... but I'm using the Edge Explore from 2018.

Thanks.

I see that you've already found the official Garmin forum.

They probably wouldn't let people post a method on that forum that does change it, because it would mean messing with or editing Garmin files... like files that are part of the OS or not even visible in Windows, hence why I wondered if there is some "naughty" way of doing it.

Urgh, it's the blue triangle more than anything else. It's too small and not the colour I'd have.

This changes the triangle to a bigger white triangle with a black outline:
Bottom Left Icon > Ride Settings > Map > Map Visibility > Map Visibility Mode > High Contrast

EDIT: Or, it did temporarily - but now it's back to a small blue triangle when I start a course.

EDIT again: After swapping from Auto and back to High Contrast now it's a bigger white arrow again.

Let's leave it alone now.

I have a variety of colours for the track and a variety of the position indicators on my Garmin.
Buy a Garmin Montana! :D

I have pink for my routes, and BIG blue triangle for my position.

I'm probably overthinking it, since you're always in the center of the screen anyway. Some have it on "North Up" but there's no way I can tolerate that. :?

I'm sure the colours were customisable some years ago - but always reverted to purple when the darned thing updated.
I particulalry dislike purple because I have poor colour vision. I can mistake purple for red, blue or brown depending on the lighting conditions. I'd love to be able to make it something distinctive. Purple is just about the worst colour for me.
