The joy of bike riding

Post by Nearholmer »

This forum gets a tad earnest at times, and seems to have no place in which to make the point that riding a bike is actually an enjoyable, life-affirming thing to do, not always a vale of tears populated by angry car drivers and unimaginative policy-makers.

So, here is a picture of the sort of thing that leads me to ride a bike. Nowhere exotic, the Chilterns a couple of hours from home.

No cars, vans, lorries. No people even. This was back in September 2009 when the UK's biggest windfarm opened at Whitelee on the outskirts of Glasgow. Now a mecca for walkers and cyclists who can explore in peace then have cake and coffee at the visitor centre.

Getting my eldest off his Play Station and taking the young ‘un on her longest ride along the north bank of the Humber for an ice cream.

Great thread, love the sentiment. Cycling brings us such joy and we love it.
I’m just having brekkie before a spin and this thread is getting me in the mood. Lovely pics, thanks for sharing.
Hope everyone can squeeze in a nice ride this weekend.
Best wishes

Sizun 2006. Despite the weather we were laughing our legs off for the sheer perversity of fate.

(That's an Alex Singer there, BTW. Alas, not mine.)

About 50 km south of here. Early August a few years ago, this was.

I love riding in the early morning and seeing the sun come up, with the low light catching the cattle standing hock-deep in mist in the fields and a café up ahead that'll have fresh croissants and coffee.

The mad start of a 200k out of Mulhouse in 2014:

We did the first 30 km at 29 kph.

I could go on, and on, and on... Can you stand one more?

Riding into Tournon-sur-Loire at 10:30 pm on Strasbourg-Perpignan 2012, looking forward to a few hours' sleep.
Have we got time for another cuppa?

One of my very first rides after fitting ekit. I'd had a long hiatus from cycling due to health and the battery and motor got me out again.
I've scenery and rides like this just around the corner :D

Do you still have the motor assist, or have your ‘legs’ returned.

Reuse, recycle, thus do your bit to save the planet.... Get stuff at auctions, Dump, Charity Shops, Facebook Marketplace, Ebay, Car Boots. Choose an Old House, and a Banger ..... And cycle as often as you can......
