Donald Where's your trousers....?

Ah..... come on... everyone thought it. Fair play by the way. A heroic fording, and one which must have been damned cold.

Almost half of the bikes in this thread have horizontal cross bars, in contrast to what I see on the road. Does this show that, on average, old bikes are more fun to ride?! Picture is the Quirang on Skye, reached on a 1990 Dawes Galaxy.

No photos, sorry, I was too busy dodging the rain drops then admiring the views but this route through my childhood haunts was epic:

Bridge (near Canterbury) to Hythe (via Pett Bottom road through the North downs) then along the sea wall/coast road to Dungeness, back across Romney Marsh then a mega-climb back up to the North downs and home via the Roman 'Stone Street' and a few wiggly country lanes.

Time taken, didn't notice, average speed, no idea, mileage, not a clue, punctures - two, due to the combination of rain and Kentish flint :)

My working assumption was that it was giving a clue as to the maturity of forum contributors.

Here’s mine, slightly sloping top-tube (I’m sure they used to be called crossbars), having a rest in the shade at Graffham Water en-route Cambridge to MK last month. It was c0930 and c28 degrees at the time. I’m fairly sure that ride was a joy, but as the morning progressed, and the temperature continued to climb to dizzying heights, I did have my doubts!

am sure that's it.
I do tend to think that a horizontal bar looks better, and so makes a better pic, but I wouldn't buy such a bike - I find sloping way more practical.

My favourite morning ride - Compton Bay on the Isle of Wight, on a glorious September morning.

Out with mates on a bike. And getting up a mountain with family. Joyful.

Went out on a new bike yesterday it’s a Moulton APB old school ish. I have Ordanance Survey on my phone set it to started recording a route picked a destination and just rode with the phone in my pocket if I got to a junction and didn’t know which way had a look at the map. I’ve been practicing for audax so I have been watching the time and distance a lot that was taking a lot of fun out of riding. Yesterday just bimbling along enjoying the Sun it reminded me of why I started riding a bike in the first place.

In past I used to have a basic wired computer and used tipex to cover the screen so I could only see the distance displayed I knew I was slow so didn’t need a computer to depress me. If I could I would use one of those clicky things that went on the front wheel.

At least it’s red and you won’t have to paint that one.

An early ride out to Drumnadrochit, the A82 is quiet on a Sunday morning, and back via Beauly and Redcastle.

Testing out the recently acquired Garmin Edge 200, all working so far (although I think the ascent was more like 600 mtrs):

cycle tramp wrote: 25 Sep 2022, 11:56am Along time ago, in another thread someone mentioned that they were thinking of taking up cycling as a past time.. but wondered if as they would only cycle 8 or 9 miles around their local villages they'd get bored.
I made a comment that it's what I've been doing that for the last four years, and I ain't got bored yet... they say a picture is worth a thousand words, so here's my other reply, taken on the way back from the local shops (about 3 miles away) with my all terrain (shopping) bike.. (a gravel shopper?)

It was absolutely peaceful out there, and if it wasn't for the fact that I had a couple of bags of frozen scampi in the panniers, I would have broken out a book, some ginger beer, bread and cheese and would still be out there now, deep into chapter eight...
Are those the new T pylons I can see in the background. They look less obtrusive than the current  versions.
