Planet X Hurricane Ti - lured by the price
I’m not usually tempted by sales offers but a Ti bike for £1800 is luring me.
Snag is I just can’t find any reviews of a Planet X Hurricane. Does anyone ride one or have any experience of PX bikes?

I've had a Planet X Kaffenback which was fine. I've ordered plenty cheap parts and tyres from them. They have had the odd quality control issue over the years. Though in fairness that may have been one bad batch.

There are 9 reviews on that planet X webpage:
4.8 / 5 - not bad, although one review describes it as 'weighing a ton' at 10 kg. I'd better go and put my behemoth of a Raleigh in the shed.

Cheers - I’m a bit cagey of Trustpilot reviews. Was hoping to find a bike mag opinion. (And 10kg is lighter than my current Kinesis too).SimonCelsa wrote: ↑5 Sep 2022, 6:18pm There are 9 reviews on that planet X webpage:

Ridden with many people who have Planet X Ti bikes and only heard praise.

My Ti Pickenflick is great. 8 years old and still as good as new. Rides well and so easy to clean. Green and yellow washing up pads and a bit of WD 40

I have 2 of their bikes. Rt58 carbon road bike and OnOne Whippet carbon mtb. Both have been excellent.
Wouldn’t hesitate to have another.

If you're looking for a well-priced Ti bike, I suggest having a look at Spa Cycles

I'm very pleased with my Audax Ti, and it was well under £1800.
Several reviews online, and I've yet to read a bad one.

I'd be comparing it with the Spa Ti Elan, which would cost a few hundred more. In particular I'd be looking for a comparison of the "front centres" measurement, which would tell me whether the Planet X offers as much clearance between toes and tyre/mudguard as the Spa Elan.

I have the Tempest which I like.but this may be useful. They are always changing the specs so may not be the bike now available.

Another YouTube review of the Tempest, which is the gravel bike version of the Hurricane, here:

What's the warranty? The problem with cheap titanium frames is that they break lots. It's not the easiest stuff to weld, and a bit of overheating results in a very weak spot.

you do seem to hear more about titanium breakages than steel for sure.rogerzilla wrote: ↑14 Sep 2022, 8:48pm What's the warranty? The problem with cheap titanium frames is that they break lots. It's not the easiest stuff to weld, and a bit of overheating results in a very weak spot.
Main plus of titanium to me seems to be cosmetic - look cool/sleek.
Some folk seem to rave about "easy to clean/wash".
hell I can't remember the last time I washed a bike frame made of anything/whatever.
little need of it as far as I can see.

Re: Planet X Hurricane Ti - lured by the price
maybe it's the ability to be riding a bike with an extra water bottle but still the same weight as the steel equivalent - must say I can't see the point either, but each to their own.
