Recommendations for good winter cycling gloves?
This will be our first winter in Sweden and also my first winter on the bike since I was a child (in Derbyshire).
Can anyone recommend good (but not madly expensive) gloves that will see me through winter? I have big hands and will be riding a combination of gravel bike (with older style Tiagra 10sp shifters/brake levers) and mountain bike (normal Shimano MTB shifters).
The cold I mainly need to insulate against is sub zero, dry cold, not wet 0-10c cold.
Thanks in advance.

Would also strongly recommend thin synthetic liner gloves with any winter glove when really cold.

Would you consider electrically heated gloves?

Pogies best any kind of glove for winter.....45Nrth or Rock Brothers.
I have both, the RB are warmer and half the price of the 45.
I wear various gloves according to the day, but nothing really bulky/ super warm because it isn't needed.

Ex army mitts, with trigger finger. lamb skin inner, attached to leather palms, thumb and canvas backing.
I’m still on my first pair, stamped 1955, bought another pair but haven’t had to use them.

From what you've posted in other threads, you have a fast metabolism and 'run hot' compared to many other people. Given that, and that you are facing cold dry conditions, I suspect the vast majority of cycling gloves with integral waterproof membranes will simply not be anywhere near breathable enough for you, and will result in excessive sweat build up inside the glove, with resultant chilling.
I would check out what is sold in bike shops in your part of Sweden, since they ought to have products suitable for the climate. Nevertheless, I think that tenbikes is right, and the best product for you would be pogies, probably combined with a thinnish fabric glove, e.g. wool or polypropylene.
For drop bars the Rock Bros neoprene pogies are probably the best option for you, but if you need insulated pogies, consider 45nrth or 7Roads. However, I suspect the heavily insulated pogies would not suit you, because I think your hands would get far too warm and sweat excessively.

https://7rbags.com/product/pogies/ (NB They are in northwest Ukraine, and appear to be continuing in business despite the war, but I would email before buying to clarify)
For flat bars there is more choice, and I would expect there are some Swedish makers. I would again suggest the uninsulated/lightly insulated versions, such as Hotpog's Classic Pogies, which are also cheaper.

Most pogies (but not the neoprene drop bar pogies) give the option of allowing some air to flow through the pogie to prevent the hands getting too warm. With flat bar pogies this is typically done by varying how tightly fastened the pogie is around the cables.

Re: Recommendations for good winter cycling gloves?
Yay, winter must be on the way, first glove thread of the season.
I haven't a lot to add to the first post Jonathan linked, I'm still happy with my work gloves. I will add that they come in larger sizes than many cycling gloves.

Since that thread, I've also added Buffalo Mitts to my collection. They're huge and somewhat cumbersome, not ideal if you have fiddly gear changing, though probably OK with care. They have other advantages, you can slip them on even when your hands are already cold and wet, and my hands warm up quicker than with anything else I've tried. Not waterproof and I haven't yet tested the theory that they remain warm when wet. I'm unlikely to set of on a ride wearing them, but they'll be carried on most winter trips.

I’m in a position I don’t go out into hours of rain. I have been caught out in maybe an hour of rain and they are surprisingly good at turning water. Also being wool if wet they are still warm.
I suspect a pair of nitrile disposable on top might last all day

I bought a large pair though must admit never used in anger in winter yet as I have other gloves which have so far found OK.
Then on a whim (maybe a special offer) I bought an extra large pair as I thought they might be handy for using over a lining for extra cold protection.
But the XL pair seem to be the same size as the L.
Have found oddities in the sizing of the odd other thing from Planet X.

These Shimano ones are bloomin’ excellent.
you can probably tell that they see a lot of use once the weather gets cold and wet.

galibier always review well and come highly recommended by riding friends
Re: Recommendations for good winter cycling gloves?
My 'cold weather' gloves (i've used them for riding mid winter in the Alps but also in Pennine winters) are actually ski gloves - warm as toast and useable with combi control levers. I've also got some heavy over mitts which add extra wind protection but anything approaching 0c they make things too warm! Think i've got 5 levels of glove plus the over mitts and liners in the arsenal so there is something to suit all conditions.
Convention? what's that then?

Are you planning on cycling through the winter?
For short trips in winter (Norway), I use ski gloves. Longer trips, I need mittens &/or bar mitts. They're called styremuffer in Norwegian, but that doesn't seem to produce a good result in google translate for Swedish.
On the other hand, this is a Swedish company that sell them in Norway, so maybe the word used is the same?
