More "road" 27.5+ tyres?

We recently had a tandem frameset built (with S&S couplings). I specified 26" wheels as I planned to transfer all the parts from our existing tandem over to the new frame. The frame builder tried very hard to persuade me to opt for 650B wheels as he thought that 26" tyres would soon be redundant, and that 650B was the way to go now. I looked into this but my searching told me that for 650B the choice of suitable road tyres is, at the moment, very limited and that rims that will accept rims brakes, and rims that will accomodate more than 36 spokes are very rare indeed. So I concluded that this would not be a good choice for our needs.
