Removing cassette

So, I’m a bit of a maintenance phobe… basically lazy. But I’ve decided I probably should do a bit more (my chain was black with solid mud/oil).

I’ve cleaned, greased and rebuilt the jockey wheels. Failed to remove the cranks as I haven’t got the right tool to remove the end cap and am now stuck on getting the cassette off. I have the equipment and have done this manyish ties before, but this time it just won’t budge. Soaked it in gt85 and nothing is moving. Any tips to get it to move other than begging for the LBS to remove it…

Please can you add a photo of the wheel with tools in place as you try to remove it.

PS: In general I wouldn't use GT85 as a releasing or penetrating fluid. I'd use PlusGas or similar.

GT85 is the only stuff I have. Will get some plusgas then!

Your using a chain whip and lock ring correctly?

Have you a good sized spanner on the lock ring tool?

Put the lockring tool in the vice.
Two hands on the chain whip is twice the effort of one on the chain whip and one on the lockring wrench.

That's why I'd like to see the set-up at the moment that the force is applied...

Excuse me if you’ve already done the following but might be worth mentioning.
Have you positioned both tools so you are pushing down either side? Whilst this is the often the stated way I more often position them close together so I’m squeezing with both hands. I do have a strong grip though.
Have you an extension pipe or similar to give extra leverage on the spanner?

Going to try a bit of pipe to extend the leverage and get some plusgas to help.

Going to try a bit of pipe to extend the leverage and get some plusgas to help.

Then try giving the pipe a sharp rap with a mallet ,hammer or failing that a brick

Good idea with a pipe...sometimes people put the lo bring on way too tight.
For comparison I carry a lockring tool with a 5mm hole in it on tours. Lockring tool, allen key for leverage and an oily rag to grip the cassette...and I can get the thing loose.Probably miles off the recommended torque, but never had one come loose on me.

Didn’t work and now I’ve hurt the inguinal hernia repair I had 2 weeks ago…

Time for some professional help I think!
