We have just driven the Hebridean Way from North to South in a motor home and were impressed by the number of cyclists riding from South to North in what can best be described as "sub-optimal conditions".
When we left Barra for Oban they were still streaming in in good numbers.
Given the wind and rain, definitely hard core!
Respect.

It's a great trip...
... we had no wet cycling and no midges. : - )

We did it in our Campervan in May and also saw lots of cyclists, many of them camping. At the Wavecrest site on Barra, one man had to set up his tent in the lee of our van to stop it blowing away. Respect indeed!

But surely they had a tailwind, or maybe tailgale is the appropriate term. The really hardcore ones were the ones you overtook (if any). I live not so far away on the mainland so I know what the weather was like today.
Re: Hebridean Way - big shout out!
I did the Hebridean way south to north and back again in May this year what nobody seems to mention is the 12% hills on Barra and worse on Harris and Lewis and the fact that it rained for 2 weeks with 40 mph winds on 3 days did not help , lovely islands if you get the weather but hard going in the wind and rain.
Would I do it again ? Yes but only south to north
And not next year.

Noting that the weather seems to have....errr...gone South for the Winter.
Barra/Oban ferry cancelled and foul weather all round.
