Wasps go broke
When I was a lad, my dad and I used to go along to the Wasps ground in Sudbury and watch a match - although tbh the best bit was always the Thermos of cocoa my mum made to take with us. I read they are now broke. Yet more evidence that trying to turn absolutely everything into a commodity has its risks. On the other hand, you can buy your son a footie shirt for £50...

Me too. I was a member of the St John's Ambulance so grabbed any duty to cover there and see the match for free.simonineaston wrote: ↑17 Oct 2022, 3:44pm When I was a lad, my dad and I used to go along to the Wasps ground in Sudbury and watch a match - although tbh the best bit was always the Thermos of cocoa my mum made to take with us. The London Wasps now, maybe to try and claim some links with London. They've moved grounds frequently in the past. I always look at their results even today. Sad if they go under.

How does a team from Wembley end up in Coventry, itself home to Dereck Duckham,Percy Preece,Phil Judd,,Peter Rossbrough and Zinzan Brooke .Money and a franchising system,TV money and severing of grass roots.
Re: Wasps go broke
I played alongside 3 Wasps players in our Wednesday afternoon West London college team. I cant believe there wont be a Wasps revival back in London. Moving out to Wycombe was a mistake and MK even worse. Moves like that werent confined to Wasps. London Irish at Readings Madjeski ground for instance. What teams will do for a flash stadium!

I hope you're right AL, surely there must be a way to re-finance their huge debt.
They were part of my early teens so I still have great affection for them.
Sometimes change is pretty upsetting.

Steve Landsdown, the owner of Bristol Sport, which owns Bristol City & Bristol Bears said back in September more revenue needs to be made by Premier League Rugby. We've had two teams in trouble and there could be more.
Re: Wasps go broke
Rugby here in Wales is having simialr problems. Some years back it was reorganised so that the top tier stuff was regional teams, meant to have a large catchment. Our nearest team, Bridgend, which had traditionally been a regular supplier of players to the Wales team, became a second tier team. And I know local people who stopped caring about going to matches at that point. They turned their backs on the game. They were not going to get in the car and go to a stadium twenty miles away to support a new team that the sport's organisers had decided they must now support. Severing local roots breaks the tradition that brings people out in all weathers.
