Sad news indeed. Forgotten for so long, he became a great ambassador for the sport when the TdF came to GOC and in subsequent years, i'm sure he was made up when young Mr Pidcock became the latest Yorkshireman to win a stage back in the summer.

RIP Brian

Although I only live "just down the road" I only met Brian Robinson once, when he was signing copies of his biography in Sowerby Bros at Mirfield, 2011 (?) When I mentioned he had inspired me to race in France he wanted to know how I had got on and when I said I was rubbish his line was "At least you gave it a go" (Not all about him)

I see from an obituary published yesterday that he enjoyed Gigondas (red wine.) Our local Aldi had it on offer earlier this year and I stocked up so we will be toasting my hero this evening - and every Sunday for some time to come

PS: It's pretty good already. As it's Wikipedia anyone can help to make it even better.

I met him once at the big early year bike Jumble at Manchester velodrome. Absolutely fascinating bloke, we offered to take him for lunch and he had entertained us with a good few tales about his days in Europe.

There was a big youth event on at the same time, and Brian was invited to hand out prizes. I don't think I've ever seen anyone so excited to be at a 'race', I guess when you've competed at such a high level, that love of the sport will stay with you till the end.
