Braverman: Rise of the Fascists
Re: Braverman: Rise of the Fascists
I see Braverman is plotting to bring in the army if the Border Force go on strike. Just the job for the helicopter toting, flak jacket wearing nutbar... Menacing machine guns at passport control? Tanks on the beaches? Fly bys over detention centres?
That's bound to scare off those foreign Johnnies!

Difficult one. Britain is struggling economically partly due to Brexit. The vote depended a lot on perceived immigrant numbers. If Putin's unjust war on innocent Ukraine was timed earlier it would have been a sweeping victory for staying in Europe.
Most people are fair and we want legal immigration irrespective of race or how much money (take the poor and rich). However we are a democracy and a sector of Conservative and Labour voters want controlled legal numbers coming into UK (especially if they are Nurses and Doctors and can pass the tough UK exams).

If you know people are coming then prepare in advance. Spend time preparing rather than playing political games using soundbites and enticing hate.yakdiver wrote: ↑4 Nov 2022, 10:41am If you come uninvited, don't expect everything to be ready for you – that is a fact of life
You arrive at work and by mid-day you have to find beds, dry clothes, food, transport for 1000 new arrivals, the following day you have the same problem. Do these migrants really think we have 1000s of fully furnished homes just for them, {FFE - family-friendly edit } get real and ask yourself what did France give them FA yes nothing
Latest is now compensation for 1000s who were put in Manston, £6000 per migrant, I'm sorry we can't afford and they are just taking the micturate out of us now.
If you deliberately and knowingly mistreat people (of any nationality) then compensation is quite reasonable. If not keen on compensating, then don't mistreat people.

You need to distinguish between migrants and refugees. Using the term "migrants" seems to be used to suggest wanting a more lucrative comfortable lifestyle rather than refugees fleeing wars, persecution, etc.yakdiver wrote: ↑4 Nov 2022, 12:19pm Excuse me, I was a migrant once and went through the “proper channels” to get to the land of my choice, I had to go to two interview which was 70 miles away from home have a full medical with chest X-rays.
I was checked out to see if I had a criminal record, had to prove who my parents and grand parents were, had to show all my trade papers and exams results and all of they took nine months.
I did not force myself on to that country, but they did ask me to come, my chosen country was Australia.
Don't tell me these so called migrant are from war zone as we all know now this is not so, some I kidd you not are coming from Nicaragua, flight to France......lose passport and then on to the UK.
OK let me ask you a question how many would you let in ?
Before you answer top retailer three years ago told up there were at least 80 million living here.

Six pages on and no one has answered my question, so I'll ask again -
before you answer you do realise the most of the hotels are now full and the government are looking at holiday homes.
How many would you let in ?

I'd suggest that at the very least, we should meet our treaty obligations. I do appreciate that what they are is subject to interpretation.
Beyond that, it seems a matter of personal prejudice. In that case, I'd exclude self-righteous humbugs.

France is about 2.3 times bigger than United Kingdom.
Still does not answer the question
Re: Braverman: Rise of the Fascists
France is more rural, similar populations so similar infrastructure, services, medical, hotels, housing, etc. so "size" does not impact ability to support refugees (you can't just show them an empty field).yakdiver wrote: ↑22 Dec 2022, 12:03pmFrance is about 2.3 times bigger than United Kingdom.
