XTR side pull front derailleur with 105 brifter
Does anyone know if an XTR front side pull derailleur work with a 105 shifter?
Re: XTR side pull front derailleur with 105 brifter
I'm not familiar with that front mech but Shimano 105 road shifters for dropped bars have a different cable pull from MTB XTR front shifters so they won't be compatible.
It may be compatible with the 105 flat bar shifter which have MTB cable pull capacity.

I doubt it.XTR is for a "mountain"chainset where gaps between rings are more than a road chainset.I had a similar issue when converting my drop bar carbon road bike to flat bars.I ended up with a simple thumbshifter for the front mech as my XT front changer from my spares box had a different pull ratio.

Re: XTR side pull front derailleur with 105 brifter
The derailleur is the Shimano XTR M9020 Side Pull Front Derailleur. Wanting to know if it is possible to fit a double chainset to a drop bar gravel bike designed for a 1 x 11 system which has no braze ons to run a front derailleur. If anyone has any other ideas which would work instead of a side pull derailleur I would appreciate it.

Braze on front mech adapters to fit standard sizes of seat tubes are widely available. You may also need a cable stop adapter for your down tube, then run the bare cable under the bottom bracket. (Cable guide under the bottom bracket may also be needed.)
For drop bar shifters you need a road mech not a MTB mech.

Does the frame have any cable guides at all for a front derailleur CABLE?
I should coco.

No cable guides.
Re: XTR side pull front derailleur with 105 brifter
Does the frame have a round seat tube? If so, you could use any braze-on FD with the appropriate size of adapter, or use a band-on FD - Shimano MTB band-on FDs usually come with a clamp to fit 34.9 seat tubes and shims for the clamp when using on 31.8 or 28.6 seat tubes.
As for cables, if you went for something like SRAM Rival eTap, no cables would be needed. Or run a full length cable outer and use the C-shaped cable guides that are zip-tied to the frame along the cable run.
MTB FDs will work fine with indexed road shifters if you are only using two chainrings - I'm using that configuration on several bikes - XT M876 FDs with both SRAM double-tap and Shimano Ultegra levers.

I use an Shimano LX 34.9 on my Cannondale with 105 brifters, absolutely no problems on an Ultegra triple.NickJP wrote: ↑19 Nov 2022, 7:19amDoes the frame have a round seat tube? Front shifting has a few differences between road and mountain bikes, including (but probably not limited to)...
Size/curvature of chainrings
chain line
cable pull per shift.
"chainstay angle" .... ie angle between seat tube and chainstay
St John St cycles sell a couple of widgets designed to get over some of these obstacles; an eccentric shim to adjust chainline and a "shiftmate" to adjust cable pull. Other workarounds exist, ie a home-made shim and altering the cable fixing point on the mech. to change how far the mech. moves for the same cable pull.
It might help to know what you are trying to do

I wouldn't bother doing what you are trying to do.
