new / rare road signs
new / rare road signs
I was out the other day and stumbled across this at the Old Ferry, Beachley, Glos.
Its the first time i've ever seen this particular 'triangle' sign and it brought to mind the now departed 'mammoth crossing' signs that used to be near Cheddar and the 'llama crossing' variant i've seen near Chepstow.
Are there any other 'strange' official signs adorning our road network?

Convention? what's that then?

Have we got time for another cuppa?

Spotted on a heath in Norfolk.
Fortunately we only saw ‘wild ponies’.

Re: new / rare road signs
The second one is actually on a shared-use path, rather than the road, and the first one more of a temporary sign.

AFAIK, the sign meaning "The sign ahead is not in use" is genuine. "Camera not in use" is very commonly seen near speed detection camerasMistik-ka wrote: ↑21 Nov 2022, 4:27pm.1thirdcrank wrote: ↑20 Nov 2022, 10:09pm

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
PS
It's In Schedule 13 Part 6 where it is item 52 ie the final item in Part 6 "Additional temporary signs"
Under the heading "You couldn't make it up" the first sign in that part at item 1 is the sign displaying the Highways Agency number to ring with queries about road works - on motorways
It's worth noting that an earlier part deals with Signs for use in temporary situations where Item one is Diagram 551.1 "Migratory Toad Crossing ahead" I think that means a crossing for migratory toads, rather than warning of a single migratory toad
Re: new / rare road signs
I scanned the legislation numerically, and found in Schedule 14, Part 2 "Light signals, signs, and road markings for the control of traffic" #60 — Diagram 7019, followed immediately by #61— Diagram 7021. I thought I'd been caught in a classic policeman's joke like the old theatrical stagehand's prank of sending a befuddled new apprentice to "Go and fetch the stage rake." (For the uninitiated, the stage rake is the angle at which proscenium stages were tilted down at the front to provide better viewing for the audience in the front rows of seating.)thirdcrank wrote: ↑21 Nov 2022, 4:38pmAFAIK, the sign meaning "The sign ahead is not in use" is genuine. I originally found it looking through in an haphazard sort of way for something daft. When I had to find it again, I used the "Find on page" facility. I cannot remember what word I searched on but it was the only hit.

I've yet to encounter anything which beats CAUTION TANK DRIVERS UNDER INSTRUCTION near Bovington Camp in Dorset. Don't know if it's still there. What exactly one is supposed to do if confronted by an out-of-control L-plated tank was unclear.
