I have just removed Shimano solid brake pads which I am going to replace with Swisstop flash pro pads.
But the new pads are too thick. I can't even close the brake. I'm not sure removing one washer to get extra clearance - any ideas?

... ship the new pads back to the supplier, with a picture of the two side by side. Ask them if they have some that fit your system, were they advertised as a like for like ?

Re: Brake pads too thick?
You can remove the washer to get clearance. Often there's a combination of thick and thin washers which can be swapped to allow this adjustment. You do need to retain the dished washer that allows the past to be set parallel to the rim.

Are they v brakes?
Is the thick washer in board? If so swap the thick and thin washers around.

Of course, you can also loosen the brake wire to allow the brakes to accommodate a wider rim of thicker pads.
Re: Brake pads too thick?
Flash Evo are thinner than Flash pro - from Swissstop website
each Flash EVO pad is 0.75mm narrower than a FlashPro pad for a total of 1.5mm more clearance for wide rims

The OP hasn't been back since starting this thread. I doubt if we will get any photos

Unless I'm missing something this seems to be the obvious course of action.alexnharvey wrote: ↑28 Nov 2022, 12:34pm Of course, you can also loosen the brake wire to allow the brakes to accommodate a wider rim of thicker pads.
Loosen the brake cable
I wish it were as easy as riding a bike
