With any grazing animal that comes over to be fed, give only food that is appropriate, and if you haven't spoken to the owner, limit yourself to a handful of grass. There might be some particularly tasty grass on your side of the fence that the donkey cannot reach. I think they like big bunches of dandelions too, the large bunches you get from late spring.

Salty crisps will make the donkey ill.

There's a thing on FB locally from the vets.
It seems that someone is leaving raisins on the canal bank in Tavistock probably for the ducks.
There's a warning from the vets saying that raisins are poisonous for dogs and for dog-walkers to be aware.

There's a story going about that chocolate is poisonous for dogs ......... as well as parrots!

What a load of TOSH.

Tell any of our dogs over the years they aren't allowed current biscuits, or chocky bars, and tell our parrot she can't have a chocolate biscuit.

I'd be very surprised indeed is some crisps would make a donkey ill.

Surely this matter is very simple. If you have genuine concerns that the donkey is not being properly looked after report it to the RSPCA. Otherwise just leave it alone and let the owner attend to its food requirements.

I consulted the song, but it had nothing to say about donkey diets,
Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you?
Yes! Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you?
It's the same the whole world over
It's the poor what gets the blame
It's the rich what gets the pleasure
Isn't it a blooming shame?

Don't feed him /her anthying , donkeys are prized possessions and are usually looked after very well, like other livestock grass/hay etc is all they need. If wanting to give a treat then a carrot or apple.

Some dangerous advice about feeding chocolate to dogs. The person was feeding cheap nasty chocolate with a low cocoa content as in Codberries.Dark chocolate is lethal in large amounts.

...if its not your donkey then don't feed it. Some donkeys suffer from laminitis and feeding them carrots will make it worse...

...feeding animals which are not yours is similar to me coming up to your bike and adjusting the tyre pressure and saddle height on the basis that you might enjoy cycling more if I did...
It's time to go :-)

We don't give our dog anything with raisins, onion or chocolate in because they are toxic for dogs. And the idea of giving any creature salt-laden crisps is very odd. The fact that the animal will eat it does not mean it is good for it.

I'm not suggesting that a dog will die from having a chocolate biscuit dropped on the kitchen floor, or that a few crisps will kill a donkey. But why give a creature something known to cause them issues? There are lots of better options. As I said, with a donkey or a horse, rip up that bunch of extra nice grass the creature cannot reach and feed them that.

It doesn't cause them issues unless your dog has a health problem.

Megan, one of out previous Border Collies developed diabetes in middle age. We had to follow her round the garden and catch her wee and to use a "stick" to measure her sugar level, so we could gauge the amount of insulin we injected into her each evening.
Sometimes, she got hypo .......... dog food varies from can-to can ............ so we kept a Mars Bar available to give her half of one for her sugar level would increase. Within five minutes, she was right as rain again after pushing it to her mouth.

This was done with the vet's advice.

We had to be careful in the Queen's Head with her because a regular chap in there would feed a bar of chocolate to all the visiting dogs. We had two dogs at the time - Megan and Rascal - and Rascal loved the chocolate and thrived on it, but the chap had to be TOLD not to feed Megan.

In those days, we used to take treats with us to the pubs, and although Rascal - and later Phoebe - had normal dog treats, we took sliced cucumber for Megan ........... which she loved!

Rascal used to accompany Mrs Mick F to the village twice a day as her companion when she was the Lollipop Lady. Everyone loved Rascal, and the children fed him sweets, and the mothers and the locals alike, would give him biscuits - chokky ones too. A local lady made him a Lollipop coat, and another lady drew a picture. :D

PS:

Onion?
Dogs love leftovers.
Try a dog on left-over stew, or steak and onions.
They LOVE it, onions and all.

Try giving a dog a burger, maybe a cheese burger WITH ONIONS and tomato sauce.
Scoff it? Definitely!

Megan had thirty puppies in her life.
Eight, a four, and then three sixes. We kept No 29 .......... Rascal.

Healthy and fit, was our Megan, but developed diabetes a few years after No30. She lived until she was 17.

Sailor is Border Collie No5.
Sally, Megan, Rascal, and Phoebe preceded him.

The fact that animals enjoy certain foods does not mean they are safe to consume .Rat poison will attract rodents ,with harmful effects. Humans like take aways laces with calories with the consequence they become overweight, even obese.
