I like long division and especially with algebraic equations -- that's my idea of fun.

Or possibly they'd been taught that only some fractions are more accurate than some decimals?

The fractions that want to be identified as decimals or the decimals that want to be identified as fractions?

22 over 7 is a far simpler expression of Pi than as a decimal, and more usable too.
Yes, I know it's an approximation.

More this is what I mean

"Absolute value" Is just the distance from zero in either
Positive or negative direction -- If absolute you mean a decimal value then 1/2 is 0.5 but 1/3 for example hasn't got a decimal equivalent.

They were right about it allowing sneak price rises though, the change from one to the other did.
I well remember the price of a ‘penny chew’ going from 1d to 1p overnight - thieving [rude word removed].

I enjoy Nerdle. And usually get it with a few lines to spare. But I suspect that my attempts are seriously suboptimal.

Any analyses out there?

I only do the daily puzzle. I strayed into the more difficult games on one occasion but the introduction of square and cube numbers made my brain hurt.

I remember thinking I was at the Cutting Edge of Mathematics when allowed to use a Slide Rule in O level Maths . (No calculators though)
I also remember trying to explain Decimalisation to my Gran (God rest her soul)
I enjoy Wordle these days plus the odd online Scrabble if time permits. Particularly if it's been snowing like today.

1/3 is .3 recurring (I think !)
