Genesis croix de fer 20
Genesis croix de fer 20
Just got a second hand Genesis croix de fer 20. In very nice condition. One thing that puzzles me is the mounting hole on the rear seat stays for the mudguard. Is pointing down to the rear tyre. Surely this isn't correct. It's a 2018 model I think. Anyone have the same bike. Thinks
Re: Genesis croix de fer 20
My 2014 Coix de Fer the hole runs parallel to the tyre - for the 90 degree bracket on the mudguard.

2021 frame, hole parallel to tyre/ground.
Re: Genesis croix de fer 20
Hi Moll and welcome.
Is this the hole on the dropout (the bit of frame where the wheel goes)
...or is this the hole on the bridge between the left and right seatstay?
A photo might help....viewtopic.php?t=36594.....should say how to add a picture, if it doesn't work somebody better at "tech. than me" will be along soon! (better at tech. than me is a fairly low bar)

Re: Genesis croix de fer 20
If it’s the hole I understand is being talked about, here are a photo from a review of the 2018 model, and a photo of my 2021 model (I’ll let you work out which is which).
Re: Genesis croix de fer 20
Hi. It's the hole on the bridge piece between the left and right seat stays. Sorry doing this on a phone. Can't figure out how to send pictures. Thanks for replying
Re: Genesis croix de fer 20
The earlier models had a straight bridge, unlike the ones posted by Nearholmer above. If the hole is just on the underside it should be threaded, or does it go all the way through? In either case the guard is fitted without a bracket, just need a hole in the guard and a button head screw* either threaded into the hole or through it with a nut.
* Or any other screw though I find button heads there collect less dirt.
EDIT - You posted the pic while I was typing! is it threaded on the underside? Same size screw as a bottle cage, M5.

Re: Genesis croix de fer 20
That looks the same as my CDF - only cleaner. In which case the hole is threaded but may need cleaning out with a thread tap as it could be full of crud. Drill a hole in your mudguard and it screws on very neatly. You probably have the same arrangement at the chainstay bridge?
Re: Genesis croix de fer 20
Hi. Yes it's threaded like a bottle bolt.
Re: Genesis croix de fer 20
Thanks everyone. I was thinking of getting sks 45mm mudguards. It still has the original tyres on. Its only done 50 miles
Re: Genesis croix de fer 20
Sounds like a good find!
What size tyres? I prefer the 55mm width SKS for tyres 35mm+. Mine are the Matt, which seem to have been discontinued, though the stripes are very similar, with added stripes obv.
Re: Genesis croix de fer 20
There continental cyclocross speed 700x35..might get the 55mm mudguards. Will they fit ok
Re: Genesis croix de fer 20
Surely what called direct mount, avoiding the clip round the 'guard? Used to be considered the best method, found on "best" bikes.
Re: Genesis croix de fer 20
With the OPs attachment layout (vertical hole) as there is also an upper hole, should the upper hole be plugged if there is a threaded bolt in the lower hole. If not it would allow water in but with no place to drain (e.g. hole directly below)>
(Asking the question, not suggesting there would necessarily be an issue)
