I am from Australia & heading over to do some riding in England, Wales & Scotland next May & June (Gravel bike).
I am struggling to find accomodation for a 1000km loop from Coventry to Cardiff, to Holyhead then back to Coventry.
All accomodation websites have costs far more than I can pay (ideally less than 40GBP a night) & I was not planning on taking a tent etc.
Anyone got any ideas or suggestions ?
Overnight stops are planned at :
Gloucester, England
Cardiff
Glasbury, Wales
Machynlleth, Wales
Criccieth, Wales
Holyhead, Wales
Rhyl, Wales
Market Drayton, England
Thanks,
Alan

Re: Accomodation Mid West England & Wales
Apologies meant to be less than 40GBP not 80GBP
Re: Accomodation Mid West England & Wales
These may not be exactly on your route but the YHA offers some reasonably priced beds https://www.yha.org.uk/hostels/all-youth-hostels
There are also independent hostels https://independenthostels.co.uk/uk-bri ... s-hostels/
The Travelodge chain can also be affordable if booked early enough.

Sorry mate, but the UK is expensive for accommodation.
Apart from Travelodge, you can try Premier Inn and First Western.
Also worth a look at general booking site like booking, com and Agoda, etc
Not sure how good the freebies are, eg warmshowers and couchsurfing, but could be worth a try if you are in to that.
Another option is local authority tourist offices which often have accommodation lists.
Good luck.

This might help: https://independenthostels.co.uk/
Premier Inn has a written policy saying that bikes are welcome in the rooms - but you won’t get it for £40

YHA already mentioned
AirBnB a possibility but I haven’t been successful.

Hi, l live in Shrewsbury, which is not a million miles from market Drayton. You'd be welcome here, and it won't cost you £40!

Send me a PM if you want, I have my own trip planned as well so would have to work around dates
Re: Accomodation Mid West England & Wales
When not camping, I tour on a budget of £40 a night, it's certainly possible though I treat that as an average rather than a maximum, so a couple of £30 Travelodge nights allows for a £60 B&B somewhere else. I do sometimes have to be flexible with the route, Glasbury, Machynlleth and Criccieth might be challenging, but I've stayed on budget in Abergavenny, Caernarfon, Dolgellau and Rhayader. Holiday areas like Rhyl are very seasonal, there will be a considerable price difference between early May and late June.
I like Premier Inn and Travelodge, I know some dislike their impersonal and functional nature, I've always had polite service and prefer that to the fussing you sometimes get at a B&B. I've only once met some resistance to taking my bike into a TL room and that was easily overcome. I usually pay less than £40 for TL and less than £50 for PI. Note they both have variable pricing, it can change from day to day, in both directions, depending of factors we don't have access too, sometimes the cheapest will be months in advance, other times the day before, it's never known it to be discounted if you turn up on the day.
