I know it has been said before by others but this headset is now very rough. Does anyone know how to remove the top headset bearing assembly as in the photo? I thought the forks would just slide out but they seem well locked in place. Any help would be appreciated.

This surely is a threadless headset so I would say just put a good lump of wood on top of the fork steerer and give it a hefty thwack with a lump hammer or similar, it should just drop out then!

I don't know that headset, but many have a compression ring on top of the bearing. It ought to drop or knock out with it in place, though I find prying that off usually makes it easier.

Would advise use of easing oil before striking with force.
