Milton Keynes.
The group I joined when I eventually caved-in and decided to join a group at all was this one
https://www.bcgmk.com/ It’s very active, maybe ten rides a week across different categories, which include “gravel” and “Redway”, the latter being a uniquely MK sort of ride. It’s also genuinely inclusive, and has membership across a wide age range. There are also Sustrans supporters active locally, keeping the two NCN routes signposted, and a cycling charity which gets to many local events (with bikes) to encourage children particularly.

We’re wandering OT, but I had to google to discover that there is a CUK/CTC branch based locally to me.
How did you come across your current club? I think most people looking for a group or club do just Google, that's probably only second to word of mouth. My local CTC group has had various promotions over the years and yet it's via Google that the vast majority find out about us. I've just put "Milton Keynes Cycling Club" into google and the their CUK page is the third hit, though their own website is languishing at the bottom of the second page. Doesn't really matter as both lead to the same information, they could do better than second page, though it's hard to compete with the resources Cycling UK have put into theirs.
We have a couple of thriving roadie clubs locally, I don't recall seeing any publicity from either, other than online and seeing them in club kit out riding.

Word of mouth. Several people recommended it to me. I wasn’t actually looking for a group at all, but when the third of fourth person said “you ought to join”, I signed-up.

I It comes as no surprise to me that a former BC rider is currently subject to a police investigation.
any more emerged on that?
how did it emerge that this mysterious person was under investigation?
not usual for police to announce an investigation unless maybe by doing so hope that other folk might come forward?

Unless you can add some facts and relevance to BC, that is a meaningless slur.

From memory it has been reported in several places - albeit from what I recall with no details - see my post above.

To be clear: I've read the reports (end of 2022 IIRC?), so I'm not disputing the existence of these allegations/investigations.

I'm not seeing anything in that article which links BC to the rape or the indecent assault.

Only in the sense of being embedded in a lengthy monologue about BC's failings in such areas!
Cowardly, unevidenced gossip.
I don't believe for one minute that you are that naive, Vorpal!

This year I've decided to cut down from membership of three CC's to just one.The one I'm renewing membership with, although BC affiliated, doesn't require each member to have BC membership. As a result I am not renewing my BC membership for the first time in about 15 years.
For me personally, I don't see BC offering any real benefit.

Hi Mattheus. Yes you are correct, I can't provide facts or relevance to BC, so my apologies - I'm overstepping my dislike of BC.

We’re wandering OT, but I had to google to discover that there is a CUK/CTC branch based locally to me. I’ve ridden a bike about the area since moving here forty years ago, and wasn’t aware of that fact until five minutes ago. Never seen a poster in a bike shop, never seen a stand at a fete, nothing.
The group I have joined in recent years is a BC affiliated one, but so far as I’m aware that affiliation doesn’t amount to anything in practice, everything seems to be managed at local level.
Affiliation gives insurance and the ability to organise BC events, though the latter is limited unless you have BC trained individuals with their own individual membership.
