Folding Electric Bikes

Post by jrwd0101 »

Hi there

I"m looking to buy a folding electric bike.

Ideally I'd like it to have lights front and back, suspension (front and rear of possible), a UK three pin plug on the charger and have 20" wheels. Probably in the £1000 price range.

Can anyone make any recommendations?

Many thanks

Copying my replies from https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/thread ... ike.44694/ in case it helps anyone else.

If you say what you will be using it for we could give a more targetted answer. What sort of range do you need? All on road, simple off road, more serious off road? Do you expect to use lots of assist, or just want some help? How hilly is it around you? Do you expect to be lugging it round a lot (into car boot, upstairs to a flat, ...)?

A bit over the £1000 and only front suspension, but you'll get a decent quality bike and excellent customer service.

Also look at https://www.e-bikesdirect.co.uk/electri ... ric-bikes/ to get an idea of the kinds of bike available. They have a wide range and decent prices, I've never shopped there but have seen quite a few positive comments about them, and anyway their catalog is a useful reference to get an idea.

Suspension on cheap bikes is often not that worth it, or positively detrimental. Usually low quality and heavy.

Wisper are well recommended but out of your price range new. However, look at

Hi..I can concur with the above reply.. being a wisper owner I can't recommend them enough..if you can Push the budget or as advised, buy an ex demo it would be worth it..you only have to look at the engineering on it to see the quality..the only modifications I've done are a new brooks saddle and a parallel suspension seat post.. later on I did fit a bag to the rear rack for the compulsory flask and packed lunch..all in all a great bike.
