We're flying in to Munich in May for a trip down to Pisa. Four of us, three from different airports and one cycling from Paris, so a variety of (scheduled) arrival times. Next day we head south towards Bad Tolz. Generally we're camping but I'm having trouble finding a campsite within a reasonable distance of the airport (ideally within 15 miles but preferably quite a bit closer to allow for late arrivals, putting bikes back together etc).
Not totally averse to a cheap hotel / lodge for the first night but the cheaper the better.
Any thoughts / recommendations?
Munich....
Re: Munich....
I'm not sure there is anything much in terms of campsites within 15 miles of Munich airport. Most of them seem to be inside the ring road, which is (as it happens) about 15 miles from the airport...
I've stayed at The Tent a few times before (www.the-tent.com) - good setup, young crowd but the tents are pitched well away from the social area (and behind some trees) so you can get a fairly secluded spot should you wish. At least, that was my experience - I haven't been for a few years and not since COVID so I don't know if/how it has changed.
It's about 22 miles from the airport though, so further than you wanted.

Re: Munich....
Have you looked at booking sites eg booking.com to search for hotels near to the airport.
Edit: I just had a look on booking and very little under €100 for 4. Munich is expensive.

Re: Munich....
There's a Jugend Zeltplatz near the airport.
There's also a number of campsites in the city, near the Olympiastadion, or there's a brand of hotels called Niu which you can sometimes get good deals at. Also North of the Olympiastadion there are a lot of Aparthotels that are OK (sub 100 even during last year's European Championships).
Beautiful city - lovely food.

Re: Munich....
Thanks folks, looks like a cheap hotel or b&b is the way to go. Really need to keep the distance short with one guy flying over from the west coast of the US, he won't want to go far!

Re: Munich....
Is the Jugendzeltplatz available for individual (i.e. not school/youth group) travellers to stay at? I thought that was just for such groups to hire en bloc, but I may have misunderstood.st599_uk wrote: ↑12 Jan 2023, 3:51pm There's a Jugend Zeltplatz near the airport.

This campsite seems to be the nearest one to the airport going south. Cycling distance to the airport : approx. 35 km.Open all year, but no personal experience.

Re: Munich....
If considering this option, be aware that there is extensive construction work being carried out on the S-Bahn and regional lines to the airport over the next few months. You might find that there is only a bus replacement service available on the day you are travelling (and it doesn't take bikes).foxyrider wrote: ↑12 Jan 2023, 8:52pmyou can always get the train into Munich.chrisfarrow64 wrote: ↑12 Jan 2023, 5:18pm Thanks folks, looks like a cheap hotel or b&b is the way to go.
