Cycle schemes in Copenhagen

Post by simonineaston »

Just a quick Q about cycles in Denmark's capital city... does anyone know if there are cycles readily available over there, along the lines of so-called Boris bikes etc.?

I can't answer your question and a quick search of VisitCopenhagen didn't show anything.

However, you will find several bike hire agencies if you search for "Cykeludlejning i København".

Incidentally, I bought a cheap (~£200) bike from a supermarket for commuting when I worked there a while ago. It did the job and I sold it for about £100 at the end of my contract so it worked out a lot cheaper than hiring.

I believe that there was a system called Bycyklen, but the company filed for bankruptcy a few weeks ago.

As above on Bycyklen.

There are lots of traditional rental places:

When we haven't had our bikes with us we've asked the hotel to arrange a couple for us.

There were docks of e bikes but Bikeshare Danmark A/S filed for bankruptcy on 9 December 2022, five years after the original operator went bankrupt, so I don't know what happens now. https://bycyklen.dk/ says the bikes are out of service and suggests asking the state railway DSB and the city council.

Some hotels have bikes for guests. Best to ask when booking.

Chum who booked remarked that cycles were mentioned at the time. We're in the city centre as it is so may not need them. Just a thought.
