A82 Loch Oich, Fort Augustus to North Laggan
Any thoughts on cycling the 5 miles, on A82, between Fort Augustus and North Laggan, Loch Oich. Path on south side closed for two years due to forestry works. Have been given a diversion route but considering A82 instead.

I have cycled it a couple of times. No issues. Outside July/August but I can't recall any problems. Enough bends to stop silly traffic speeds but no real blind bends that would worry me.
I presume you are talking along Loch Oich and would still use the towpath from Fort Augustus to Aberchalder?

Personally I would not cycle on that road though 5 miles isn't too long a stretch.

When I rode JOGLE in 1993 I used tis road from Drumnadrochet to Tyndrum. There didn't seem to be many alternatives (I was avoiding the A9)
Traffic was often heavy I wouldn't recommend it - maybe things have improved.
I seem to remember a cyclist being killed on the A82 by a vehicle coming the other way and crossing his path.

Thank you everyone. Cycling from Fort Augustus to Fort William beginning June. Because forestry track is closed I will use the A82 to North Laggan then Canal path to Fort William.

Hi, does anyone know of a cafe near North or South Laggan. The Eagle Barge at North Laggan is closed on the day we are cycling through.
