Time to mark the passing of this tiny lady who did great things on her bike many years ago. She died recently, at the age of 99. On Radio 4 someone remarked on the fact that one of her records was broken many years later by a woman on a carbon fibre bike, with all the modern advantages, who managed to shave just a little time off Eileen's time, established on a steel framed bike with relatively few gears

I love the fact that she rode a bike badged as "Hercules" at one time, but the frame was actually made elsewhere because real Herucles bikes were too heavy.

This earlier thread includes an interview with Eileen Sheridan recorded by 24hour maths and other stuff about her

Re: Eileen Sheridan
She would have made a formidable audaxer, if that had been a thing in her day. In a modest way I have done long distance cycling, doing hundreds of miles over a weekend, so I have an idea just how impressive her great rides were. And I know I couldn't have hung on to her back wheel for more than a mile of two.
