Careful Cugel! Anywhere else you'd be cancelled or your writings put out for a sensitivity reader to get their green pen out on it. They won't like the wife beating comment. On two grounds, the beating but mostly calling her "the wife" like she's owned. And yes that implies I include your writings in the same league as Dahl, Fleming et al.

Well, I was abused as a young man by reading that Viz and probably also by glimpses of Andy Capp cartoons. In practice, though, I am ever so nice to all the genders, especially that of Mrs Cugel, who does not tolerate Patriarchy tropes or behaviours of any kind and rightly so!Tangled Metal wrote: ↑28 Feb 2023, 1:43pm Careful Cugel! If I could, I'd be very unpleasant indeed to that Tater and rather unsympathetic to the so called red-wall Tory loon who wants to prosecute those rescuing drowning folk he considers the wrong type. Were I still a little Tyneside teenager I might be throwing clarts at his windows; or worse!

I've noticed that many of the Blighty male gender still don't want to admit the reality of "a Patriarchy" and feel that abused ladies are exaggerating. How anyone can not see the damning evidence of our culture treating women, even today, as very second class citizens is beyond me. Various horrible statistics could be referred to.
Here's another interesting article highlighting yet another egregious aspect of our anti-female cultural assumptions and habits, giving rise to something called "hag feminism":

The above is a review of a book:

A quote from the NS article:
"Women in middle age are far from elderly; most of their adult lives are still ahead of them. But, says Victoria Smith in Hags: The Demonisation of Middle-aged Women, once women are no longer young they are inevitably seen not only as past their expiry dates but also annoying, useless, entitled and embarrassing. Oh, and ugly of course".

Incidentally, it seems as if this forum has a dearth of the female gender, with only a very few contributors. Is that the case? If so, why?

Yet many who hold those views hold up the middle-aged Mrs Thatcher as their political idol. More than a few of them will get their rocks off through being beaten by a strict middle-aged woman too.
