I was thinking of going on a cycle tour with a tour company either at home or abroad
but with no requirment for me to wearing a cycle helmet.

Does this type of tour still exist?

"Do we need cycling helmets?

A cycling helmet is not compulsory on Bike Adventures trips (except where required by the laws of that country), however we do recommend that you wear one as an added safety precaution."

Semaine Federale in France. No helmet required, but the majority of the riders wear them.

I have no problem with not wearing a helmet on holidays. The problem is with travel insurance and the small print.
I use either CTC recommended travel insurance (Yellow Jersey) or the holiday companies recommended insurance company . These may be more expensive but there can be no argument about helmets.

All charity rides, sportives, and most road clubs seem to require them now. If you ask why, they first suggest you're a fool, then admit they don't really know and it's something to do with insurance.

One issue is that the majority of faster (i.e. younger) riders who form the target market have never known any different.

I recently checked my travel insurance and they said any claim would be invalide if not wearing a helmet. That was for road riding.
