Shakespeares cycle way
I am hoping to ride the Shakespeare cycle way this year. Has anyone ridden this and if so have you any recommendations for accommodation etc. such as points of interest. Many thanks.
Re: Shakespeares cycle way
We're in South Oxfordshire and that comes past.
On the points of interest... what do you like? Museums, theatre, architecture, railway stuff, food and drink, great views... ?

Hi Jonathan
I’d be interested in anything, especially historical sites and scenic views (for photos). I would prefer sites with secure bike parking, as I will be solo and don’t like to leave the bike too long with all my gear on board. This also applies to the accommodation.
Thanks for your response.

Oxford city has a lot!
Three men in a boat went through Clifton Hampden.
Ewelme contains a fascinating bit of social history, and Jerome K Jerome's place of burial.
And Sutton Courtenay has "George Orwell's". Many people are quite moved by this.
Didcot has some railway stuff, apparently.
For views I recommend Wittenham Clumps, although I always feel the absence of the cooling towers. And anywhere in Oxford that gets you up above the streets and colleges.

there is a certain "semi-secret" way into the grounds if on a bike.mattheus wrote: ↑16 Mar 2023, 12:12pmAt £22.50 *just* for the gardens, you need to!st599_uk wrote: ↑16 Mar 2023, 11:43amI think you get 1/3rd off if you arrive by bike too.Mr.Benton wrote: ↑15 Mar 2023, 6:17pm Blenheim Palace is on route, it is a nice place to visit with a stately home and impressive gardens.

Once on a ride Birmingham to London I breakfasted by the lake with cake and freshly brewed espresso.
Then cycled out through the main gates - not much they could once I was in - except ask me to leave,
someone walking through the blenheim grounds seeing all my gear on the back of the bike asked if I had slept out there - touch of envy in their voice. Had to tell them I hadn't. Don't know how possible that would be.

Thanks to you all for your replies. It certainly looks like there is plenty to keep me interested for a few days.
