Sleepingshelter.com (dodgy website)

Post by in4time »

https://www.sleepingshelter.com/

I may be wrong but trying this site re tents at too good to be true prices prompts me to flag it up here. The prompt to donate to some Yoga type thing rang an alarm bell.

If I’m totally wrong then apologies extended.

moderator note: the post is meant as a warning to those tempted by the low prices

Ridiculously low prices (even for last year's models), comic font from the 1990s, wrong company name in the FAQ, no telephone number, as far as I can tell, a made up address (not even a made up postcode to go with it), no company registration or VAT number ...

Website domain bought very recently 2022-12-19T08:17:46Z

File under Too Good To Be True. Interesting exercise though, has given me a checklist for next time I buy something online.

The address does exist, it's an industrial estate in Scotland, but that there's no postcode and no phone number, and a small reseller is describing themselves as
A team with vigor and vitality, self-dependent design team, experienced raw material purchasing department as well as mature supply chains, all of these enable sleepingshelter.com to accelerate its pace into a global online retailer.
then, yes, too good to be true!

Pete.

If you search for the very final sentence of their T&Cs, you find there are thousands of identical websites selling their own set of products: google results

Have you evidence it’s a genuine business? Combined senses so far in this thread see 'scam alert' as does Carl Parkinson https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/sleepingshelter.com

The wording on their FAQ page (https://www.sleepingshelter.com/faq/) is identical to the wording on this page: https://www.husqvarna-storer.com/3439-2/

They forgot to change the reference to Husqva Outlet.

I suspect that the www.husqvarna-storer.com website is also a scam. Husqva have their own online store at https://www.husqvarna.com/us/ and it looks like they have ripped off details from the official website to build a scam site for Husqva products.

I imagine it's been set up as a way of making money, and is thus as much a "genuine business" as, say, the local drug dealers.
Not legal, but still a business...

The www.sleepingshelter.com website is clearly a scam website, as is the www.husqvarna-storer.com site I mentioned in an earlier post.

It looks like the people behind it (and the husqvarna-storer site) are also responsible for the following scam sites:

https://www.outletdayton.com
https://www.outletboker.com
https://www.bedchichome.com
https://www.uscampinghiking.com
https://www.onlineadid.com

All these websites (and https://www.sleepingshelter.com/) have in common:

1. The format of the websites are the same, only the style changes.
2. Same spelling mistake: "Term and Conditions" instead of "Terms and Conditions".
3. None of the company addresses given on the Contact Us page actually exist.
4. Pages like the FAQ page, Delivery page, Term (sic) and Conditions, etc. are identical (the sites just use different styles).
5. On all of the sites, the Term (sic) and Conditions page states "feel free to give us a call between the hours of 8 am to 5 pm CST M-F", though some of these sites give addresses that are clearly not in the CST time zone (the one for sleepingshelter.com certainly isn't). Also, none of the sites contain an actual phone number, so how exactly are you supposed to give them a call?

All of these sites offer goods at substantial discounts that are too good to be true. They are clearly designed to pull in gullible people who are prepared to suspend their common sense in order to pick up a bargain.

It looks like another scam site (www.racquetssports.com) was set up by the same scammers, but it has since disappeared as it was identified as a scam site. Hopefully the sleepingshelter.com website will also be pulled soon.

The TrustPilot entry has been updated - looks like someone called Chris fell for their scam and paid for a tent using PayPal.

Fake shopping sites are really common, sadly. I think part of the “business model” (if you can call it that…) is to appear as the cheapest price on Google Shopping, which is largely an automated service and therefore susceptible to fly-by-nights.

I have been able to find 25 scam websites with the same format at sleepingshelter.com.

One of them (www.thebike-shops.com) is for an online bike shop - is nothing sacred?
