Emergency Alert Test 23 April
Emergency Alert Test 23 April
This capability and forthcoming test of Government's ability to contact every mobile in any given locale, quite small up to national, news to me until this morning.
The capability has obviously been built into mobiles for some time, presumably because already operational in some countries/markets.
Surprisingly, it can be turned-off. More surprisingly, HMG has so informed us and told us how.
Mine is now "off".

We live in a mobile notspot. No need to turn them alerts off.
If they used the internet it could reach more punters.

Given threats by War Criminal Mr Putin around Ms Truss's time (including the use nukes against the UK months ago) I just hope we NEVER have to use it in reality/National emergency

Just looked at mine and there's three lots, earthquake alert, extreme alerts and severe alerts. They can be turned off individually. Does this mean only those with a mobile phone and alerts switched on will get what used to be called the four minute warning?djnotts wrote: ↑19 Mar 2023, 9:04am This capability and forthcoming test of Government's ability to contact every mobile in any given locale, quite small up to national, news to me until this morning.

Apparently it doesn't work with dumb phones, so that's me out.

Is there any point in turning it off? The noise when everyone else's phone goes off at the same time should have roughly the effect of an air raid siren anyway?

What are you supposed to do when you get a warning of a nuclear attack?

Oh dear... my ringtone's the sound of a WW2 UK air raid siren - I'm going to get proper confused! Thinks: is that my mate seeing if I want to pop down the rub-a-dub, or else, the End of the World?
