Error or intended?

Post by 1982john »

My front disc brake cable has been routed behind the fork.

I'm curious as to if this was intended or if it was an error in the setup.

Is it caught at the extreme of rotation?

Does it affect the rotation?

It does seem to impact the rotation. When turning left the drop will move under the top tube bar but turning right it wont go as far.

I'd reroute it and assume that the cable and outer are damaged until proven otherwise.

This is a new bike that I've just had delivered. I guess I'll need to contact the vendor

Looks wrong, with a tight bend in the cable like that.
Is it cable or hydraulic?
What brand and model is the bike?

Can you rotate the forks by 360° anticlockwise ? This should sort out the front cable routing. You may need to loosen the stem clamp to stop the bars rotating with the fork otherwise you will wind up the other cables too.
The forks may have been turned rearwards to fit inside the delivery box. An easy mistake to fall into and subsequently rectify.
Think outside the box.
At the last count:- Peugeot 531 pro, Dawes Discovery Tandem, Dawes Kingpin X3, Raleigh 20 stowaway, 1965 Moulton deluxe, Falcon K2 MTB dropped bar tourer, Rudge Bi frame folder, Longstaff trike conversion on a Giant XTC 840 :D

This ! ^^

The forks have been rotated too much, maybe during transit.
Take front wheel out.
Loosen stem bolts.
Rotate fork 360° anticlockwise.
Tighten bolts.
Refit front wheel.

It should all look much better!
