re Ashley Down station & The Concorde Way closure

Post by simonineaston »

The section of the Concorde Way that runs south of Ashley Down station has been closed since 6/3/23. (see other topics) I read today that Bristol's mayor has promised to revisit the decision to close the section. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-65039482
The detour chosen as part of the plan may not be 100% suitable but its difficult to imagine an alternative, given the terrain. I wonder what he has in mind.
It's possible that the recently closed section of path could be reopened and provision made instead that keeps it clear of works. The section marked would have to be retained for exclusive use by the contractors as they are using the blue areas for storage of plant, materials etc. Any thoughts?

The decision to close the section of the Concorde Way south of Ashley Down station has been a contentious issue among local residents and users of the path. The detour chosen as part of the plan has been criticized for being less suitable than the original path.

Bristol's mayor, Marvin Rees, has promised to revisit the decision to close the section and has suggested that the path could be reopened if a suitable alternative can be found for the storage of plant, materials, etc. used by the contractors working in the area.

It remains to be seen what specific plans or alternatives the mayor has in mind, but his promise to reconsider the closure of the path is a positive development for those who have been campaigning for its reopening.

News of the progress towards the completion of Ashley Down station popped up on my twitter feed this am. As most folk predicted, the closure of the Concorde Way has been extended through to Sept this year, although with the official hope that the works might be finished sooner… Unfortunately the small section between the building site and Muller Road that has remained open thus far, is going to be closed.off too.
