Liability insurance from anyone other than British Cycling

Post by Shorthousemuir »

The one reason I've stayed British Cycling member is because of their liability insurance. However, as my membership is about to expire, I want to move elsewhere, but for liability insurance only (I have theft, accident, etc insurance elsewhere). Does anyone know of any companies that offer similar cover to BC; i.e. @£40 per annum with cover up to £5m. Thanks

Have you checked your home insurance? Mine covers me.

My home insurance covers me 3rd party liability whilst cycling. Unsure about the limits.

Home insurance should cover you unless you opted out of that part of the cover.

Laka currently £1.50 a month for liability + legal expenses cover. Liability cover only £2m. Includes overseas trips up to 120 days.

Yes indeed, a tried and tested supplier. (and fairly well known - at least outside this forum)

As always the detail is in the policy, I'd have said could rather than should, the liability cover in my home insurance policy is pretty limited, I wouldn't be happy to only have that. Yours may be different, I wouldn't assume one way or the other without having read the policy.
As the OP already has theft and accident insurance, it'd be worth checking that policy, my bike insurance (TSB Pick & Protect) includes PL (£2 million). So even if theirs doesn't it might be worth shopping around for one that does, getting it bundled in with something else is likely to be better value than stand alone.
I'm a member of Cycling UK, the PL insurance is just one of the benefits, it'd be poor value if that was the only reason for my membership.

National Clarion? Not necessarily National Clarion 1895, which is somewhat different.

IIRC the BC insurance didnt cover you against another cyclist also with BC cover; which is why I joined UK Cycling

I've been with Triathlon UK for a few years. They do cover "when training" but define training loosely as any walking, running, cycling, swimming that could conceivably be exercise, so probably not splashing around in the fountains of Trafalgar, but running to the shop would be.
Bored with earth, where is the mother ship please?
