Thanks Axle and Audax.
Mrs Mick F has been away lots over the last few years, sometimes weeks at a time.
If all this was when she was away, I would have dialled 999, and continued to do that until an ambulance turned up.
I was desperate, and in terrible pain .......... and dare I say it, suicidal.
111 is absolutely rubbish.
Mrs Mick F hung on for half an hour before getting an answer, and even then, they couldn't help, and said they'd call back with advice.
That was Sunday morning, and now it's Thursday afternoon, and we've heard absolutely nothing from them. No advice, no nothing.
Our Daughter1 has health issues, and she needed help and maybe an ambulance, but she had to wait for three days before they called back. Meanwhile she dialled 999 ....... and it was sorted.
111 is absolutely rubbish.
I have little in the way of appetite, or stamina, or much interest in stuff. I can sit here on my armchair and I'm fine. Get up and do something, I get tired. This toothache and the associated trauma has knocked the stuffing out of me.
I'm very slowly getting better and looking forward to a walk with Sailor our Border Collie tomorrow. He has suffered too, by not getting the long walks he gets from me. If I feel fine by the weekend or after, I could possibly contemplate a bike ride .......... but my fingers are well and truly crossed.

Wishing you well Mick -- toothache can be unbearable at times -- seems you had a shocker of one. At least it's been extracted but if they gave you antibiotic tablets make sure you finish the course -- I didn't a few years ago and found the infection spread to my neck -- I thought the toothache was bad but I almost passed out with the pain. Got more antibiotics from A&E where I landed which cured it thankfully

Good morning guys.
Feeling better-er today!
Slow but sure. Steady as she goes, to use a nautical expression.
No antibiotics prescribed, but the dentist lady said that in six weeks I still have discomfort, I was to go back and she's give me antibiotics. She didn't expect that I would need them.
This whole episode has told me that I'm not immortal, and that I'm actually a 70+ year old bloke. It's brought me down to Earth.

Good news. Keep her on an even keel!

Glad your feeling better. At your age you need to see a dentist for a routine check at least yearly. My dentist sees me annually and at the last check up he removed 2 teeth which were beginning to cause me a slight pain. He explained that they had died due to age. Best thing was to remove them he said. I've lost maybe 4 teeth now at 71 years, so still have enough to see me out.

Jonathon has already mentioned this, but its worth emphasising; people under-estimate the risks of paracetamol. It remains the main cause of acute liver failure in the UK - through accidental or deliberate over-dosing.

I had a few days of toothache agony a couple of years back, and paracetamol just bounced off it. No effect at all. I also tried paracetamol and ibuprofen together (which the pharmacist said was okay), but again, next to no relief. Clenching an ice cube on the tooth did help, temporarily. Real relief arrived only when the emergency dentist inserted a syringe needle and drew out puss. Instant relief. The antibiotics he sent me away with fixed it for a couple of weeks until my regular dentist could do some work to bring about a long term fix. Hoping you are getting back to normal, Mick.

Pain is really debilitating isn’t it? recently with shingles I too learned I’m not immortal.
I think this episode should have told you to visit the dentist a little more regular than ten years.

Hi guys.
Feeling fine now, and I can clean my teeth with the battery Oral B40 system as usual. Often think of it as UB40!
A little tiny bit of discomfort, but not anything you could call pain at all.
Thank goodness!!!

It's the size of the

Good to read that you are getting better.
I've been wincing in sympathy through the thread.

Hi guys!
Still a bit of tenderness on the gum, but other than that, I'm fine.
One issue with pain and cycling, is that as your heart beats hard, the pain throbs in time.
I'm off a ride tomorrow morning. First one since 28th April. My tooth was on the "touchy side" for a week or two before it really started to hurt, so even on that ride, it throbbed a tad.
Like all bad things, you hope they will go away by themselves.

Glad you're feeling better.
Toothaches are the worst. I've been 'blessed' with fairly weak enamel, so have had my fair share of dental interventions over the years.
Most notably was an abscess in my gum which killed the tooth above it, aged probably 14.
The tooth was dead to the point that it split a few times during the extraction, but by jove I felt much better after it.

Successful ride today.
Quite hilly 15miles.
The gum area didn't throb a bit!
